Default Japanese Cut Of ‘Toxic Avenger’ Dated For Home Video

On DVD December 11 from Troma is the Japanese cut of The Toxic Avenger. An additional four minutes have been added to this version!

From Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, and starring Mitch Cohen, Andree Maranda and Mark Torgl, “Welcome to Tromaville, New Jersey — a small American town, terrorized by criminals. The town’s corrupt mayor sits idly by while muggers, robbers and teenage punks victimize helpless citizens. Among the residents of Tromaville is Melvin, a nerdy, emaciated janitor at the local health club. That is, until he becomes The Toxic Avenger! A gang of thugs devise a cruel hoax that goes horribly wrong as Melvin is cast through a third story window and into a vat of hazardous toxic waste. However, an unexpected metamorphosis takes place. As the chemicals take hold of his body, Melvin turns into the Toxic Avenger, doer of good, and brutal mauler of evil! The rest, as they say, is history! The excitement is non-stop as the hero sets out to single handedly wipe out the forces of evil that torment the people of Tromaville. The Toxic Avenger is non-stop entertainment that will leave the viewers glowing from the fun.”

Bonus Features also include Production Stills and Trailers.

Default SAVAGE WATER + DEATH BY INVITATION [DVD] *COMING SOON*

Two grimy, low-rent, regional sleaze-fests guaranteed to leave even the most jaded genre film fans scratching their heads in disbelief.

SAVAGE WATER (1979)
Regional horror filmmaking at its most bare-bones, Paul Kener’s Utah lensed proto-giallo is a schizoid blend of big budget home movie and ultra cheap sleaze.
Director: Paul Kener

DEATH BY INVITATION (1971)
One of producer Leonard Kirtman’s odd ventures into horror filmmaking, ‘Death’ is an effectively gritty tale of 20th century witchery topped off with a pleasant touch of psychedelia.
Director: Ken Friedman

Features Include:
+ Dual Layer DVD-9 | Region Free | 16:9 Anamorphic | 1.85:1 AR | MONO

Default “NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2,” “MONSTER SQUAD” DVD/Blu-ray art & details

One of the ’80s’ best direct-to-video sequels is coming home again, this time getting its due with a special-edition DVD and Blu-ray. New discs of the cult classic THE MONSTER SQUAD are on the way as well.

NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 (pictured), the Brian Trenchard-Smith-directed follow-up to Kevin Tenney’s cult favorite, gets the dual-format release February 19 from Olive Films. Amelia Kinkade returns as the demonic Angela, making Halloween night hell for another group of young people (this time from a religious school) who make the mistake of partying at Hull House. With impressive makeup and monster FX by Steve Johnson, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS 2 will be presented in 1.78 anamorphic widescreen on the discs, with audio commentary by Trenchard-Smith and cinematographer David Lewis. The same day, Olive also issues a new DVD and Blu-ray of writer/director Fred Dekker and co-scripter Shane Black’s THE MONSTER SQUAD, remastered in HD at 2.35:1 widescreen but with no special features announced. Retail prices for each title are $19.95 for the DVD, $29.95 for the Blu-ray.

Default Silent Hill: Revelations 3D DVD & Blu-ray Details

Silent Hill: Revelation will be available on 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, On Demand and Digital Download on February 12, 2013 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father (Sean Bean) have always tried to stay one step ahead of the malevolent forces intent on their destruction. But on the eve of her 18th birthday, a dangerous revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in a nightmarish landscape forever. Based on the hugely popular video game series and written and directed by Michael

It doesn't appear there are any special features included as the press release sent out does not mention any.

The sequel opened in the fall and grossed an estimated $17 million domestically. It fared much better overseas grossing $26.9 million.

Default The Basement Camp Retro 80's Collection

Just wanted to share a pic of my copy of The Basement Camp Retro 80's Collection. If you're a fan of super low budget horror, especially shot-on-vids/Super 8's from the 80's, this is a must have.

This is the first release on any media for The Basement, which is why they also included a copy of it on VHS as this would have been what it would have gotten put out on if it had come out back then. If it wasn't for Camp Retro the film would have been left forgotten. This is also the first time another flick included in the set is released on DVD: Captives. Each film comes with an audio commentary.

Question

Torgo, I had a question. I heard that there is a Walmart exclusive Blu-ray release of When a Stranger Calls and Happy Birthday to Me that came out recently.

Do you know if the Happy Birthday to Me on this release has the original music?

According to the board at Blu-ray.com, it has the original score.

You would know better about what the poster is talking about and if he is accurate (i mean once you have the Blu-Ray)

I hate to say it, but I've only skimmed through the middle of WaSC. However, in the urban legend opening, there are two editing differences in the audio:

1. The BD removed the "Who?" in Carol Kane's "Who? ... Bobby!", when talking to Nancy.
2. The BD removed the angry phone-pickup effect as well as Carol's frustrated "HELLO?!" after she returns from the kitchen.

Fortunately these aren't completely muted moments, as you can still hear the background track(s) ...

I'm just wondering if this is how it was presented theatrically. In other words, has something been REMOVED from the BD or for all these years were the home releases prior to the BD ADDING these elements

I would assume the former, though the lossless track is by far superior to the DVD's AC-3 and it states on the back of the cover that the original studio track was used.

I'm glad they've re released Happy Birthday To Me with the original score. Back when they released the other version I was happy it was finally released on DVD, then I learned of the "new" score, and that they even left out the end theme song(one of the greatest horror movie theme songs) I passed, not to mention the horrible DVD art. I was going to just be happy with my home made DVD, then Anchor Bay released their version with score intact. Sort of bummed though there is zero special features.
