NBA Commissioner David Stern said Friday he thinks eliminating teams will be on the table during collective bargaining as a way to solve the league's financial woes.
''It's a sensitive subject for me because I've spent 27 years in this job working very hard not only to maintain all of our teams, but along the way add a few,'' Stern said during his preseason conference call. ''But I think that's a subject that will be on the table with the players as we look to see what's the optimum way to present our game, and are there cities and teams that cannot make it in the current economic environment. I'm not spending a lot of time on it.'' CBSSports.com first reported Thursday that the league would ''continue to be open to contraction,'' after Stern said he wanted player costs reduced by $700-800 million. That set off predictable panic in some small-market cities whose teams have struggled on the court and at the gate. http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/D...n-table-102210 ![]()

Instead of contracting it, why don't they give the team to Seattle since they have a solid fanbase there?

That sounds good. And rename them the Seattle Supersonics and let the Grizzlies be....

How many teams are there in the NBA?
I'm assuming 30. |

The Cavs should be contracted because their owner funded a drive to put casinos in four cities in Ohio (my state) last year!
LeBron was wise to take his talents to Miami! I'd like to see Dan Gilbert file for bankruptcy and be forced to live under a bridge! |

I don't follow basketball, however the Lebron James soap opera which was even getting loads of coverage where I live, Canada, made me think that of the 4 sports, NBA players are the worst.
Why should fans pay their hard earned money to go to an NBA game when players like Lebron admit he quit during the playoffs? |

As far as I'm concerned the Grizzlies were eliminated from the NBA ten years ago when they left Vancouver. (not that I'm bitter or anything!)
