"Phyllis" composed by Dick DeBenedictis
Opening Theme ------------------- Who makes the fog surrounding the Golden Gate simply disappear? Phyllis; Phyllis. Who makes the warning bells on the cable cars play "The Gang's All Here"? Phyllis; Phyllis. Who charmes the crabs of Fisherman's Warf right out of their shells? Who lights the lamps of Chinatown just by walking in view? Who? Phyllis; Phyllis; Phyllis.... It sure isn't you! Closing Theme ------------------ <Instrumental>

I loved the "Phyllis" Theme. I hated the Lalalalala--lalalala version of Rhoda's Theme!

I always thought this was a good play against the MTM theme song ("Love is All Around"). Phyllis just doesn't have the charm as Mary had!

From wiki:
The opening credits to Phyllis parody other TV series opening credits of the same period, specifically The Mary Tyler Moore Show by depicting the character Phyllis in a variety of San Francisco settings, while the theme song plays. The theme song parodies Broadway musical numbers, most specifically Jerry Herman's title songs to "Hello Dolly" and "Mame". In keeping with the nature of the character, the final line of the song is sung flat, and off-key. Lyrics: Who makes the fog surrounding the Golden Gate simply disappear? Phyllis, Phyllis Who makes the warning bells on the cable cars play "The Gangs All Here"? Phyllis, Phyllis Who charms the crabs at Fisherman's Wharf right out of their shells? Who lights the lamps of Chinatown just by walking in view? Who? Phyllis! Phyllis! Phyllis! It sure isn't you! |

You're welcome!
Poor Phyllis - she couldn't do anything! She couldn't make the fog disappear, couldn't make the bells play 'The Gang's all here, couldn't charm the crabs out of their shells, couldn't even light the lamps in Chinatown just by walking in view. But that Mary! She could turn the world on with her smile! She could take a 'nothing day' and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile! That's why Mary made it, after all. ![]() |
