In the closing that we all know,it just shows a picture of the barracks and nothing else. But does anyone remember the OTHER closing? In that one,it shows the men walking one way,and Gomer Pyle walking another way.Pyle gets back in line after Sgt.Carter yells at him to get back in line.Is this closing on the DVD,and was this the ORIGINAL closing? And a question:In the first season black and white episodes only,Sgt.Carter called Gomer not "Pyle",but "boy".Why was this?

...and, like the one on "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW", the first was seen only on CBS {Sgt. Carter yelling at Gomer while trying to march in formation with the rest of his platoon}, usually featuring a General Foods logo in the lower left-hand corner of the screen [they sponsored the series during its entire run]. The second featured a backdrop of the barracks, with an extended version of the closing theme. That version was used in CBS daytime and syndicated editions of the series.
As for Carter calling Gomer "boy" a lot, that was during the first season, when Sgt. Carter was getting to know Pyle a lot better [inbetween yelling at him, that is]. When he did, he started yelling his last name {"PYLE!!!!!!"}. ![]() |
