By Associated Press 9:33 AM EDT, June 27, 2010 COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A federal judge has ordered an Ohio timber cutter to pay $44,845 for illegally taking down 822 trees in a national forest. Larry Adkins Jr. of Oak Hill, Ohio, also was given six months of home confinement with electronic monitoring, and U.S. District Court Judge Edmund Sargus Jr. of Columbus ordered Adkins to perform 200 hours of community service. Adkins had pleaded guilty to stealing the trees from the Wayne National Forest in Gallia County. The theft was discovered in late 2006. The U.S. Forest Service spent about $10,000 repairing damage. Authorities say the stolen trees were sold to three mills as saw timber and pulpwood. ___ Information from: The Columbus Dispatch, http://www.dispatch.com

![]() By my calculations that's $54.56 per tree. I think he's getting off cheap.
