73 years ago today on May 21, 1937 Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan took off from Los Angeles, California beginning their quest to fly around the world. Sadly it was a journey they would never complete. On July 2, 1937 and nearing the home stretch of their journey, Amelia and Fred disappeared over the Pacific Ocean in the vicinity of Howland Island. Neither they nor their plane has ever been found.

One of the saddest stories ever. Amelia Earhart really was a woman ahead of her time.
By the way, has anyone seen the movie about her starring Hilary Swank? I never have but am curious as to whether or not it's any good.
