Default Characters who met their own portrayers in a TV series

There have been reports of a character from a TV show who came face-to-face with their own portrayer. For example in an episode of Sanford and Son, Fred Sanford met his portrayer, Redd Foxx, in a "Redd Foxx lookalike Contest", and in a The Nanny episode, Fran Fine met Fran Drescher.

I don't know whether this counts, but in the "King of the Beach" episode of
The Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno as bodybuilder Carl Molino met the
Hulk (also played by Ferrigno).

Before all of these there was Doris (Day) Martin who won a Doris Day look-a-like contest on the 3rd season of The Doris Day Show. Terrific episode!!!

On Vicki Lawrence's talk show, Vicki they created a behind the scenes video where her character, Mama (Mama's Family), walked into the studio and interacted with Vicki Lawrence. I believe this is on Youtube.

An actor/actress and the character he or she portrays appear on screen at the same time. How can such an occurrence be achieved?

Usually it's accomplished by use of a split-screen special effect, coupled by behind-the-back shots of a stand in who looks like the actor from behind.

On an episode of The Lucy Show, Robert Goulet played both himself and another character. I'll have to watch that again to see if they met, but anyway it's not quite what the OP was asking about.

Exactly! This is how Samantha & Serena appear together as well as Patty & Cathy. I think most sit-coms of the 60's and 70's at one time or another had a castmember playing 2 characters in the same scene.

Really? I thought they usually clone the actor in order for the actor himself and the clone to appear as both himself and his character.

This is what I hate about message boards. If you had asked the question in person, I would have known from the tone of your voice that you were being sarcastic. I don't know why I bother to answer this stuff. Oh well, nice to be made look like a fool. Thanks for nothing.

Biff, I thought he was serious too. If I had heard the question in person maybe I would have known he wasn't really as stupid as he made himself sound...OTOH maybe I would have known he was....

Either way you tried to be helpful, and that's commendable.
