TV: Teen Wolf Pilot Cast Revealed
Monday, December 14, 2009
By: MrDisgusting

Can Rod Daniel's Teen Wolf - his classic 1985 buddy-comedy with a hairy spin - be revived as a MTV series and still retain at least some of its mojo?

The original had a great cast, an interesting (and original) coming-of-age spin, and the invention of the greatest dance of all time (slight sarcasm)... the "Wolf Dance".

This evening MTV revealed the full cast and details for the pilot of new series that will keep the buddy-comedy elements intact and focus heavily on the romance plot line.

MTV has assembled the acting pack for "Teen Wolf," its reinvention of the 1985 movie.

- Tyler Posey as 'Scott' whose credits include "Lincoln Heights" and "Brothers & Sisters."

- Dylan O'Brien will play 'Scott's' best friend who is initially dismissive of 'Scott's' theory that he was bitten by a wolf but then begins research on human-werewolf transformation.

- Crystal Reed (MTV's "Hard Times") will play a sweet new girl at school who is immediately smitten with 'Scott'. Reed is repped by Mavrick Artists and Main Title.

- "7th Heaven" alum Tyler Hoechlin will play a handsome local boy who in fact is a vicious and predatory werewolf capable of great harm.

MTV's take on the film, which starred Michael J. Fox as a high-school student who discovers he is a werewolf, is a dramatic thriller with a buddy-comedy element at the center and a romantic plot line.

It revolves around Scott McCall (Posey), a dorky high-school student who gets a rush of new powers, including the ability to attract girls, after a wolf attack.

"Wolf" is executive produced by Davis, Marty Adelstein and Rene Echevarria.

Teen Wolf Remake Finds a Director
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
February 1, 2010

It's been well over a month since MTV announced Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O'Brien would be starring in the remake of Teen Wolf, originally released in 1985 with Michael J. Fox starring.

Lensing in Atlanta, Georgia with Jeff Davis (Criminal Minds) scripting, it was unknown who was directing.

Shock Till You Drop has learned and can confirm Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil: Extinction) is at the helm.

This means Bait, the nature-run-amok 3D thriller Mulcahy is prepping will have to wait. Not for long, however, the production recently received a boost in funding.

Teen Wolf will hit later this year.

Mulcahy Talks Teen Wolf Remake
Source: Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
February 22, 2010

Over the weekend, Shock Till You Drop held a midnight screening of the 1984 nature-run-amok film Razorback. Director Russell Mulcahy dropped in for a Q&A fresh off his latest project:

"I just shot the pilot for "Teen Wolf"," Mulcahy confirmed to the audience.

"The funny thing is, the full cycle is like I got "Razorback" because of an MTV music video. When I did videos I did 'Video Killed the Radio Star' which opened MTV.

Now I'm doing the pilot for "Teen Wolf" for MTV and my good friend Jeff Davis, the writer and creator of "Teen Wolf".

We went down to Atlanta, froze our balls off. Cameras broke down. Camera trucks caught on fire. It was a ball.
"

Teen Wolf is an update on the '85 film with Michael J. Fox.

Tyler Posey is the high school student afflicted with lycanthropy this time and it looks like, tonally, the series is going in a different direction than Fox's comedy.

EXCL: Crystal Reed Dishes Details on Teen Wolf
Source: Rob G.
February 23, 2010

The cast and crew of the upcoming Teen Wolf remake are back in L.A. and away from the Georgia chill. For actress Crystal Reed, it's immediately back to work.

Shock Till You Drop caught up to her on the set of Skyline, the creepy new thriller being directed by Colin and Greg Strause, and got her to talk a bit about Teen Wolf.

The film, directed by Russell Mulcahy, serves as a TV pilot for MTV.

Were you familiar with the original Teen Wolf when you got this one? Which character do you play?

Reed: My character Allison doesn't exist in the original. I guess I'm sort of the Boof character, but not really. The difference is I'm the love interest from the beginning. I'm so excited about this!

What's the biggest difference between the original and the remake?

Reed: It's not really funny. I mean, there is that comedic aspect, definitely between Scott [Tyler Posey] and Stiles. There's a Stiles in our version and he's brilliant, he's going to be really good. So you have that, but there's also the romantic kind of pull, which is really the center, and it's also really dark.

The way it's filmed, the colors are very saturated, so the look reminds me of True Blood. The blacks are black and the red's pop. The script is not at all like the original. It's not a remake, they're just simply using the names, the locations are the same and instead of basketball, he plays lacrosse.

There are going to be some really interesting twists and turns. The writing is amazing and the special effects are brilliant. The other thing that's cool is he's not in a full werewolf costume.

What does Scott look like when he "wolfs out"?

Reed: He looks really human, because he's a young werewolf, so the things that are changing are his eye color. His ears are going to be a bit pointier and the hair on his hands is going to go up to about here. [Points to her elbows]

Obviously, his muscles are going to grow. Progressively as he gets older as a werewolf, he'll become more wolf-like. The very first time he turns, it's actually pretty scary.

Are they using CG or physical prosthetics?

Reed: I think they're doing both.

What about working with the director Russell Mulcahy, who's good friends with the creator of Teen Wolf, Jeff Davis?

Reed: He's a lovely person and so great to work with, because he gives you your artistic space where you can kind of interpret what you want the character to be. And then he'll just say, "Now, what if Scott was looking at you this entire time and you can just sense him? How would you look at him?"

He kind of lets you think that you thought of what to do on your own, and that's what a great director does. When you think about it, it all clicks. He's really mellow and really great.

Thursday, May 20, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

While we wait on MTV to air the "Teen Wolf" pilot, Deadline is reporting that they've already officially ordered it to series.

The pickup deal, held up by sorting out details with MTV_Logo_2010 rights holder MGM, has now closed. The order is believed to be for 12 episodes.

The reinvention of the 1985 movie starring Michael J. Fox has been a hot project at MTV, which ordered a pilot presentation in the summer.

First Impressions: Comic-Con Gets A Taste of MTV's "Teen Wolf"
Jul 23, 2010
by Denise Martin

MTV screened the first act of its upcoming series adaptation of "Teen Wolf" Friday at Comic-Con — and holy smokes, it's good.

Or at least the first eight-odd minutes are.

A one-hour drama and MTV aren't terms you'd expect to hear together, a point acknowledged prior to the screening by MTV's Vice President of scripted development Justin Levy.

But the network appears to have lucked out in its reinvention of the original 1985 film, a campy teen comedy starring Michael J. Fox as a high school basketball player who becomes a werewolf while going through puberty.

MTV's reboot, as conceived by executive producer Jeff Davis ("Criminal Minds"), is downright dark, gritty and, for this convention-goer, scary.

Russell Mulcahy (Resident Evil, Highlander) directed the pilot, which brings him back to his roots at MTV. He, in fact, is the recipient of the network's first moonman (an award he won for directing The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star," the first music video ever played on the network).

"This is not the 'Teen Wolf you remember'," Davis said. The camp is gone, and the body count will be high. It's still a coming-of-age tale, "but it's a horror at its core," Davis told TVGuide.com.

So don't expect Scott to go surfing on top of a van any time soon.

Here's what the sneak peak set up:

Scott (Tyler Posey) is a lacrosse player, or specifically, an asthmatic bench warmer, who gets dragged out of his house on a cold, dark night when his friend Stiles (Dylan O'Brien) wants to go searching for the body — or, the remaining half a body -- of a murdered girl. (Stiles' dad is a cop.)

As they hunt for the body, which is lost somewhere in the woods, Stiles is caught by pop and dragged home, leaving Scott all alone. The rest involves that missing half a corpse, a mysterious deer stampede, and the bloody bite that will change everything.

No air date has been set yet for the series but production in Atlanta beings in October. MTV promises a video tease will be available online soon, but for now, Davis told the audience they should know this: "I wanna see blood, and claws and people dying," he said.

You've been warned.

TV: Michael J. Fox Being Courted for Recurring Role in "Teen Wolf"
Monday, September 27, 2010
By: MrDisgusting

Moviehole.net is reporting some very interesting news as they claim that Michael J. Fox is being courted by MTV to appear as a recurring character in the TV spin-off of "Teen Wolf", based on the hit movie starring the then-young Canuck.

Obviously, this is all speculation at the moment, but it could be something that forces me to tune in.

Thursday, February 3, 2011
By: MrDisgusting

You'll be able to see MTV's rehash on Sunday, June 5, following the always hilarious MTV Movie Awards.

Russell Mulcahy directed the pilot episode.

He escapes the attack with only a bite to his side, but starts to notice some changes in himself.

Ready for "Teen Wolf" Promos?
by Alyse Wax
March 29, 2011

We have been eagerly anticipating the release of MTV's "Teen Wolf" series, but with the trailers MTV just released, the anticipation is now waning.

The three teasers are pretty much what you would expect from an MTV show: girl drama, sports drama, teen drama. Of course, there is the added wrinkle of werewolfism.

The teasers are pretty awful, each a cheap splicing of random scenes loosely tied together with poorly edited bits of dialogue that almost tell you what the show is about.

Maybe I am being too harsh; after all, each spot is only about fifteen seconds long.
