Hi, I was wondering if anyone remembered an episode with a Skunkape.. something like that. A different type of "bigfoot"? People had photos, the hair of this thing was going to be analyzed and had already proved it wasnt human, synthetic, dog, cat.. blah, blah, blah. I was wondering if they ever did a follow up on it to see what the DNA proved?

Yes, that segment aired in the summer of 1999 on CBS I believe. The sightings were in Florida. I've not seen an update on it, but there is plenty of Skunk Ape information available online including:

I still find this epsodes and several others like this intriguing and still plausible, as experts HAVE ruled out synthetic hairs from ape suits and what not.
I have this episode if anybody would like more info on it. |

They just showed this segment the other night. Its the one about the swamp monster thing, right? Tehy said they were going to do DNA tests on hair they found throught the area b/c they had ruled out humans and animals. Strangely, they have no update on the DNA. I dont get it, why??? Don't just leave us hangin', UM......I cant decide what to make of this case. I think I am 50/50 on it.

Usually when theres not an update in this type of cases means that it was discovered to be a fraud. Probably the hair was from a known animal. Its the same with the ufo's cases: the sightings get a lot of publicity but when a rational reason for the phenomena its found it never find its way through the media.

I just pulled my head out of the sand and I believe you're right. Afterall, wouldnt it have been all over the news if they had done DNA test and had found it it to not an snimal, human, or synthetic fiber? Sometimes I cantbelieve the segments UM airs. They should split the show into 2, one for real mysteries and one for the sci-fi channel.

I wrote an email to UM back in '99 or 2000 and they responded to me. They provided me with the address of the Florida labouratory that was conducting the samples. Sadly my brother and I never wrote to the address. Now you can't even seem to email UM's site about this to get an answer.

The skunkape story is a funny legend. I saw an update on the episode the other night and someone took a picture in her backyard of the animal looking right at her and smiling.
Now, first of all, I had to laugh at the pictures. They had the walk of those infamous Bigfoot pictures and it was looking right at the camera with an odd smile, just like Bigfoot. I don't know, I think the pictures are bogus. The person who sent it in said the creature looked like a Orangutan, but it smelled bad and stole fruit from her.

The one thing that makes me not rule out hoax is the glowing eyes.
Not that glowing eyes couldn't be faked. Primates don't have glowing eyes do, they? Looks more to be hissing and growling than smiling. The fact that people keep saying it has a bad smell has always intrigued me. Not the type of trait you would want to have in your made up monsters. Offhand looks to be a doctored photo of a chimpanzee in the wild. Looks like someone solarized a portion of the face area and blurred the photo. |

Some primates' eyes don't glow.
From what I recall of the segment, the tracker they brought in had found tufts of hair that they were going to have examined. I wonder what developed from that. As far as the photos, I find it incredible that anyone would get that close to an unidentified animal, especially one large enough to cause substantial injury with it's paws and mouth. The photo is highly questionable. On the other hand, I've heard of enough idiots who have been attacked by bears, lions, elephants and bison while attempting to take the perfect picture, so anything's possible... |

This story can actually be believed!
With the DNA evidence still being debated and with numerous eyewitnesses, not to mention pictures, it could actually be true. Wonder if that guy is still out there sitting in the swamp? ![]() |

On the Farina hosted episodes they updated this segment with those pictures provided above. As for the DNA evidence, the results were inconclusive to say the least. They ruled out just about every known primate but also concluded that it was nothing synthetic (like from a Halloween costume). And those pictures scared the hell out of me the first time I saw them.
