TV Rob Zombie Dishes on David Caruso's Acting Limitations

Zombie the Next Guest Director of CSI?
Source: Roadrunner Records, The Pulse of Radio
December 7, 2009

Still on his "Hellbilly Deluxe 2" tour, Rob Zombie's directorial future is still uncertain. Is he going to do The Blob? Tyrannosaurus Rex? Something completely different?

According to The Pulse of Radio, by way of Roadrunner Records' Blabbermouth, Zombie is reportedly circling to direct an episode of "a popular television series based around forensic crime investigation." Roadrunner is speculating CSI. Since going on the air, that series has seen a myriad of helmers including Quentin Tarantino.

Why should we take Roadrunner's word? Zombie just signed with the label, so they might know a thing or two. When confirmation comes, we'll let you know!

Roadrunner will release Zombie's" Hellbilly Deluxe 2" album next year.

Rob Zombie's CSI: Miami
Source: The Associated Press
January 13, 2010

As we first reported here, Rob Zombie was flirting with the idea of leaping to television to direct an episode of CSI: Miami.

That episode he's involved with has begun shooting in the Los Angeles area (which explains why our interview request with the man to talk about the DVD release of Halloween II was turned down).

According to the Associated Press, the episode brings "the Miami crime-solving team to Los Angeles in a story that involves secret tape recordings and evidence tampering."

Tune in on March 1 to see what kind of visual stamp Zombie puts on the series.

Source: MySpace
January 18, 2010

As we reported last week, Rob Zombie is currently helming an episode of CSI: Miami which is currently shooting here in Los Angeles and is scheduled to air on March 1st.

Zombie checked in via his MySpace blog and posted the teaser image below which reveals Malcolm McDowell, Paul Blackthorne, William Forsythe and Michael Madsen as guest stars.

(Rumor has it Halloween co-star Kristina Klebe also pops up briefly in the episode.)

"Here is just a small taste of the mind-blowing episode of "CSI:Miami" coming your way! This is gonna be the biggest one yet! Stay tuned for more exciting news!"

This marks Zombie's first crack at directing television.

Rob Zombie talks about directing 'darker, spookier, scarier' episode of CBS' CSI: Miami
By Cristina Kinon
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Monday, February 22nd 2010

Next Monday's "CSI: Miami," directed by horror auteur Rob Zombie, is "darker, spookier, scarier, and more dangerous with a lot more edge," says co-executive producer Barry O'Brien.

The episode, airing at 10 on CBS, features a murder, of course, but also a trip to Los Angeles where Horatio Caine (David Caruso) and Eric Delko (Adam Rodriguez) try to clear Jesse Cardoza (Eddie Cibrian) of evidence-tampering accusations.

A friend of Zombie's who works on the show had been after the heavy metal rocker and "Devil's Rejects" director for years to direct an episode, but Zombie's schedule never allowed for it. When he finally had the time, he was looking forward to the challenge.

"I wanted to see what it was like," Zombie told The News. "Other TV offers have come up in the past, but I never really went after them because I wasn't sure I really wanted to do TV.

It's so different from making a movie, because you go into this established situation that sometimes has been going on for years and years."

He's also glad he's finally doing something that his mom can watch and enjoy. She's a fan.

Though the script, written by O'Brien, was crafted specifically for Zombie to helm, the episode isn't a complete departure from the traditional "Miami" look and feel.

Zombie says longtime fans won't feel like they're watching a new show, but Zombie fans will recognize his stamp.

"In the opening scene, it'll seem obvious that I was the director," said Zombie. "But I wasn't trying to disrespect the show by disregarding anything they've done. I wasn't trying to turn it into something different."

Another indicator of Zombie's presence? The guest-star roster, which includes Michael Madsen, Malcolm McDowell, William Forsythe, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and even Zombie's wife, Sheri Zombie.

"Along with bringing his vision," said O'Brien, "Rob brought his friends."

With all elements put together, O'Brien said, the set had a "total party atmosphere. ... I didn't want the shoot to end."

Zombie, known for his violent and profanity-laden work, ran into only one slight snag: figuring out what the FCC does and doesn't allow.

"We live in a post-Janet Jackson Super Bowl wardrobe-malfunction world, but Rob got that," said O'Brien. "He successfully found a way to convey his signature edge and push the envelope while staying inside the boundaries."

Zombie is interested to see the audience's reaction to his television debut, and doesn't rule out a future in the TV biz.

"I think I'm better suited to do something on HBO or Showtime, but I'm not even sure I could get into the TV groove," said Zombie. "I like creating things, then moving on to other things."

Rob Zombie Dishes on David Caruso's Acting Limitations (VIDEO)
by Jeremy Taylor
posted Oct 12th 2010

Appearing on "Red Eye" (Weekdays 3 AM ET on Fox News) rocker and auteur Rob Zombie spilled the beans on directing David Caruso in an episode of "CSI: Miami", which Zombie called "the longest three weeks of my life."

"Red Eye" host Greg Gutfeld egged Zombie on, saying he had heard that in terms of taking direction, Caruso can't do two things at once. Zombie paused for a moment, contemplating whether or not to dish on Caruso.

But that moment passed quickly, and Zombie proceeded to tell a hilarious story about Caruso's acting limitations:

"I said OK, in this scene he'll drive up and get out of the car, and they'd be be like, "Eh, David is not great with driving," So I said, 'OK, we won't have him drive up, he'll already be parked and he'll step out.' And they're like 'he's not good with doors."

"OK, so we'll just sit him there," Zomibe continued. "Sitting, Caruso's not really good with sitting," was what the folks who work on "CSI: Miami" told Zombie.

All of this should only enhance the bizarre legacy of David Caruso.
