ION TELEVISION TO PREMIERE NETWORK’S FIRST ORIGINALLY PRODUCED FILM --“A GOLDEN CHRISTMAS”-- ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13

New Holiday Film Stars Andrea Roth, Jason London, Nicholas Brendon,
Bruce Davison, Elisa Donovan and Alley Mills

West Palm Beach – November 17, 2009 -- ION Television’s first originally produced television film, the holiday themed “A Golden Christmas,” is set to make its world premiere on the Network on Sunday, December 13 at 9:00 PM, ET. The announcement was made today by Leslie Chesloff, Executive Vice President, Programming, ION Media Networks. This two-hour film marks the first of a dozen originally produced made-for-television movies that ION Television is slated to roll out throughout 2010.

“A Golden Christmas” stars Andrea Roth (“Rescue Me”), Jason London (“Dazed and Confused”), Nicholas Brendon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Bruce Davison (“Ghost Whisperer,” “Longtime Companion”), Elisa Donovan (“Sabrina, The Teenage Witch”) and Alley Mills (“The Wonder Years,” “The Bold and the Beautiful”). The film is produced by MarVista Entertainment; directed by John Murlowski; and written by Jay Cipriani.

“We are thrilled that “A Golden Christmas” is kicking off our new originally produced series of movies-for-television,” said Chesloff. “It’s a touching, funny story that is sure to become a holiday classic. We look forward to the premiere of this film and our other original movies, which together will help anchor our weekend primetime line-up as we move into 2010.”

Synopsis:
One summer a long time ago, a little girl and a little boy were brought together by a very special dog. They played all summer long, it was puppy love. Then the summer ended and they never saw each other again until…years later when her parents (Davison and Mills) retire and decide to sell their house. Jessica (Roth), recently widowed, decides she needs to start over and moves back home with her son. She hopes to buy the old house as a Christmas surprise, however, her plan goes awry when she discovers that her parents have already sold it. What she does not know is that the house has been sold to the very same person that she spent that magical summer with years ago.

Red face

Wow, Norma Arnold's on "The Bold and the Beautiful" now? Hey, it sounds like a good movie, produced by the same network that last aired the show for which she's most famous, at that!

Thanks for unlocking the thread, Pav!

ION TELEVISION RINGS IN THE HOLIDAYS WITH

BIG MOVIE WEEKEND CHEER,

A SPECIALLY THEMED WEEKEND OF FAVORITE YULETIDE MOVIES,

DECEMBER 12-13

Special Block of Holiday Films is Led by the Broadcast Premiere of

Award-Winning “March of the Penguins”

and the Premiere of the Network’s First Original Film “A Golden Christmas”

West Palm Beach, November 30, 2009 -- The weather outside is frightful so come in and gather round as ION Television presents Big Movie Weekend Cheer, an entire weekend devoted to holiday themed movies. Led by the broadcast premiere of the award-winning documentary “March of the Penguins,” the weekend is also highlighted by the premiere of the Network’s first original film “A Golden Christmas.” The new programming block, which airs Saturday, December 12 through Sunday, December 13, was announced today by Leslie Chesloff, Executive Vice President, Programming, ION Media Networks.

“It’s great to be able to offer our viewers this wonderful combination of a critical and box office theatrical hit, a brand new original production and proven audience winners,” said Chesloff. “This is exactly the kind of programming mix we have been promising and it’s just a preview of what’s in store for 2010.”

The Big Movie Weekend Cheer line-up kicks off with the television film “The Christmas Clause,” the story of a stressed out working mom who gets her yuletide wish to change her life. Starring Lea Thompson (“Back to the Future”), the film airs Saturday, December 12 at 3:00 PM, ET (encores Sunday, December 13 at 5:00 PM, ET). The TV movie “Christmas Town,” starring Nicole de Boer (“Dead Zone”) and Patrick Muldoon (“Starship Troopers”) is the story of a woman who travels to Christmas Town to visit her estranged father and gets caught up in a weird and intense Christmas spirit. It airs Saturday, December 12 at 5:00 PM, ET (encore airs Sunday, December 13 at 3:00 PM, ET).

Next up is the broadcast television premiere of the Academy Award winning box office hit “March of the Penguins.” Directed by Luc Jacquet, the acclaimed documentary is a remarkable a look at the annual journey of the Emperor Penguins, as they march to their traditional breeding ground. Situated in the pitiless ice deserts of Antarctica , the most inhospitable terrain on Earth, the film chronicles a truly remarkable journey that takes place as it has done for millennia. “March of the Penguins” airs Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 PM, ET (encores air Saturday, December 12 at 9:00 PM, ET and Sunday, December 13 at 7:00 PM, ET).

The weekend concludes with the primetime premiere of the ION Television’s first original film production “A Golden Christmas” which airs on Sunday, December 13 at 9:00 PM, ET. “A Golden Christmas” is the funny and heartwarming story of a recently widowed mother (Andrea Roth) who moves back to her parent’s old house with the intention of buying it. However things change dramatically when she discovers the house has already been sold – to a man she once cared deeply about when they were both still kids.

That's too bad, ION had a much better lineup with The Wonder Years, Growing Pains, and Who's the Boss.

TV ION Beats The CW in Households & Viewers, Ties The CW in Demo

For the first time in the history of ION/i/PAX, the mininet with only 94 affiliates, beat The CW (with twice the number of affiliates) last week in Nielsen households and P2+ viewers, and for the first time ever tied The CW in A18-49 rating. This is the first time in mininetwork history that ION/i/PAX has ever beaten or tied The CW or their mininet parents, UPN and The WB.

Week 14 (Dec.21-27):
ION 0.7HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (390,000), 1,070,000 P2+ viewers
The CW 0.6HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49 (410,000), 820,000 P2+ viewers

This was the fourth consecutive week that ION has climbed above the 1,000,000 P2+ viewer threshold.

After 14 weeks of the 2009-10 season, in season-to-date averages, ION (0.6HH/1%, 0.3 A18-49, 940,000 P2+ viewers) is now ranked ahead of both TeleMundo and TeleFutura in households, and ION is ahead of TeleFutura in P2+ viewers.

Hearty congratulations to ION's new ownership who now sit at the mininet table an equal to The CW. These new owners must be thrilled to bits that for the last four weeks, over a million viewers on average are keeping an eye on ION. Those are the sorts of numbers that will prompt more advertisers to keep an eye on ION too.
