OK... It's like this:
The other day, a friend of mine and I were talking about the Vince Foster case (the guy who was a friend of the Clintons and supposedly killed himself). My friend mentioned something about it being on UM, to which I said, "It was never on Unsolved Mysteries." He said, "Uhh... yeah, it was." After a brief argument, insults about each other's mother, and threats of physical violence, I looked it up on the UM website. Well, what do you know... It was on UM. (By the way, when eating crow, I recommend use a lot of ketchup and wash it down with lots of beer! )Anyway, I ask you fellow UM junkies: When was this episode on UM? Was it any good? I can't believe I never saw this case. Does anyone know if you can view it on Yo... (Just kiddin' CD!!! ) |

I kind of remember seeing this episode. Various theories about his suicide and relationships with the Clintons and politicians were discussed.

Wow, Vince Foster, yeah I did not know that his case was on UM either. I am one that always believed that he was murdered. Lots of interesting details in that case. Such as how it is highly rumored that he and Hillary Clinton had a long standing affair.

Oh yes, UM did a great segment about it. UM even had a hand writing specialist analyze Vince Foster's suicide note. The specialist concluded that it wasn't written by Vince Foster himself. Very suspicious to say the least.

I did remember them doing a segment on Vince Foster. Sadly I can't remember too many details on it.
Death or suicide? I'm usually the type of person who is game for political conspiracy theories. I really think the only conspiracy here is that someone else wrote his suicide note. I think some idiot in the cabinet just decided to turn his resignation not into a suicide note out of misguided loyalty. |

Yes i remember the case on UM, it went into several theories such as
1.The supposed Suicide Note which if you believe the Government and Secret Service was found ripped up in his brief case 2. No bullet was ever found where he allegedly committed suicide 3.Why was the police not allowed into Vince Fosters office until after the Secret Service was finished in there 4. The Gun supposedly used in the "Suicide" was not even his and his wife claims he never owned one 5. No blood was even found 6. Some said he was murdered elsewhere and planted there |

This is a juisdictional grey-area. Technically since Vince Foster was a federal employee, he falls under the FBIs jurisdiction. But because he is associated with the White House, the Secret Service has the excuse that they need to make sure there is no apparent security threat to the President. They need to search all evidence to make sure there is no assasination plans, bombs or maps. So they technically could be in the right. The local police could technically be told to get lost by both the FBI and the Secret Service under the jurisdiction that the murder is part of an investigation national security risk. But most likely the police would work with FBI once the Secret Service has determined there is no threat to the president. |

Well, you have to remember he 'killed himself' in a U.S. Park, that is where his body was discovered. Initially, the U.S. Park Police had jurisdiction over the case. They were the one's whose jurisdiction the case fell under. The FBI did 'assist' the park police since as you mentioned, that was/is basically mandatory they be involved in some way because Foster was a federal employee.
However the Secret Service and FBI both have a tendency to make things more messy and complicated than they need to be. Even though the FBI officially was only 'assisting' my guess is they were running the investigation as the park police probably were not very experienced in investigating a case that could potentially be a homicide. It just seemed everyone was pretty intent on labeling this is a suicide. They also overlooked Foster's religious beliefs as he was a Roman Catholic, and in Catholicism, that is the one unforgivable sin is killing oneself. While that does not mean he for sure did not kill himself, it does give some weight to the very real possibility that he did not. My personal opinion is, Foster was murdered. At the time of his death, Foster was on the anti depressant/anti anxiety drug Trazodone. It seems he had great difficulty adjusting to life in Washington and he was known to want to move back to Arkansas. However it does not make sense to me that he would want to kill himself. Yes he was depressed and anxious. However he wanted to return to Arkansas alive, not dead. |

But the Episode mostly went into the handwriting and how from the handwriting samples known to have been written by Vince Foster, parts of the suicide note looked like it was written by someone else.
Because it was not part of his handwriting method |
