Angry Don't you hate it when you try to be nice and helpful to people...

...and they slap it back in your face?

Happens to me quite a bit, especially at work. I am DONE with going out of my way to be nice or helpful to certain co-workers. I can tell they do not appreciate it at all. I used to give out lollipops on occasion to the kids I had morning duty with, but stopped because a couple of the teachers went whining to the principal about me. (They couldn't even come to me directly, the cowards! ) I'm just... DONE! Seriously, I'm just doing what's expected from me and I will help out the couple of people I trust and consider friends from now on.

Cool

I understand your frustration Kristen. And it seems the situation you described happens more often then ever now as the world becomes more and more "politically correct." It's never been more true that "no good deed goes unpunished!"

I know how that feels, Kristen. I'm so sorry.

Thanks. It's just been one of those weeks where I feel like I've had it and can't take it anymore. It really has. I feel like I can't do anything right by anyone.

Why would they go to the principal for something like that?! Are they jealous?! And would you get in trouble by the principal?

I don't know why they didn't just come to me. The principal just told me to stop, which I did. NOW, they're whining because I won't report for cafe duty in the morning until 7:45, which is when the staff is officially supposed to be on duty. (School starts at 8 AM.) I used to go in earlier out of the goodness of my heart to be with the kids who came in earlier even though I didn't get paid and the other people who are assigned to the cafe couldn't be bothered to come in a little earlier.

There's just no pleasing some people.

I didn't think there was any crime in giving students lollipops, but I guess there is. Geez.

Man talk about whiners.

I was nice to someone that I work with yesterday and it was thrown back in my face. I'm tired of being nice to people and having it thrown back in my face. No wonder people don't want to do or say anything nice to people anymore

Were they griping because they thought the lollipops weren't nutritional or something? I mean, would they have griped as much if you had handed out grapes or something? Either way, it's a stupid thing to gripe about I think.

As long as YOU know you were doing a good thing for the right reasons, you really can't control or worry about how others perceive it. I know it's frustrating when it seems you aren't being appreciated, but in the end, our intentions are what matter and I hope your experience doesn't make you stop being a kind and caring person.

I'm sorry that these things have happened to you, Kristen. However, I don't think that you should change who you are. You have a kind heart, and that is the person you have to be. As Jesus taught us, even when a person is unkind to us, we should still show kindness to them.
