Post Did You Like The New One Better Then The Original?

I caught an episode of the New WKRP on a UPN station, while I was in New Hampshire, and it wasn't too bad. They had a playboy playmate replace Loni's kind of part, which is a bad move, but at least they look somewhat like eachother. Most of the cast made guest appearences, or 2 of them [herb and carlson]. I can't say taht this was better then the original, but it was a good try.

This show was terrible. It suffered from "After-MASH" syndrome: Take the three least interesting characters from a show and start a new one which continues their story.

The "new" WKRP was very cookie-cutter in it's premise. I did tape them when they originally aired, but it was only for the original WKRP characters when they appeared. I thought the humor was canned, sometimes overused and not as original as the first WRKP. Most times the show was more of a snoozefest.

The three least interesting characters?!! I think these were great characters. To say that any of the original characters was better that another is blasphemous (ok that's exaggerating, but all the originals were great and certainly never boring.)

Obviously this show would never have been as good as the original. I think too many judged it on that basis and never gave it a chance. I thought it was pretty funny, and carried much of the spirit of the original WKRP.

Unhappy

Perhaps I'm not giving the new series a fair shake but, after enduring half of one episode, I had to switch off. The magic of the old series wasn't there. As for boring characters, all of the original cast were superb, and made up the perfect ensemble for a perfect sitcom (Momma Carlson I genuinely disliked much of the time, but she was not meant to be a likeable character). It's not the first case of failing to recreate magic.

It was a syndicated show. It aired for 2 seasons from 1991-1993.
