Default After 40 years in New York, "All My Children" goes West

AMC's Big Move
ABC has confirmed that it is moving production of ALL MY CHILDREN to Los Angeles beginning in January; OLTL will inherit AMC's old studio space. "I am so grateful for the wonderful commitment from ABC to ALL MY CHILDREN," said the show's creator, Agnes Nixon, in a statement. States Brian Frons, ABC's Daytime Chief, "The move to Los Angeles enables both ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE to dramatically improve the series production models and achieve significant efficiencies while enhancing each show. We had to examine every option on the table to combat the current economic realities, and rising costs of production, and we are doing it in a way that makes each of our shows stronger." "Obviously, we are grateful to be able to keep going," one AMC actress tells Digest. "But how this will affect all of us in the cast and crew remains to be seen."

UPDATE: ABC has officially announced that production of AMC will be moved to Los Angeles in December, with OLTL moving into AMC's current studio shortly thereafter. AMC will begin taping episodes in L.A. the week of January 4, 2010, which will begin airing in HD in February. The relocation will give both shows upgraded facilities and streamlined production models.

That means cast members are going to have to move from New York to L.A. Wonder how that will fly.

Ditto. Does that mean OLTL will be moving, too? I think both of those shows tape in the same building.

Nah. OLTL currently tapes in some old military armory building or something in NYC while AMC actually tapes at an ABC studio building. OLTL is going to move into AMC's studio and AMC will make the move to California. According to some sources, both shows will be broadcast in HD come February.

My sis wasn't happy to hear this today.

Our mom and her decided to go to OLTL's fan luncheon instead of AMC's for this year and now the both of them are pissed.

I think some of the cast members will be ok with it. Some soap stars who work in New York have California homes.

I just read in a soap magazine Ray MacDonnell finished tapping his last scenes as Dr. Joseph Martin. Now Susan Lucci will be the sole remaining orginal cast member.

I went to the OLTL luncheon two years in a row. I wasn't really keen on going to NYC, and I would have much preferred it in LA. But I had a good time anyway. Met a lot of cool people from OLTL!

They both got in the AMC fan luncheon since I posted that. They went there in the hopes of somehow getting in and were able to buy the tickets at the door when people who reserved did not show up.

It is unknown at this time if the future AMC luncheons will be held in LA not.

The last OLTL luncheon was held on a boat that went around NYC.
