Sitcoms that didn’t take themselves too serious. They were there to entertain us, make us laugh, had excellent writing (doesn’t necessarily mean smart writing) and a cast with wonderful chemistry. I don’t go by ratings or even by popularity. This is solely about the show itself and NOT people’s reaction to it (hence the high ratings). This is my list of the top 10 BEST SITCOMS OF ALL-TIME!
#1. Taxi (1978-1983) #2. The Honeymooners (1955-1956) #3. I Love Lucy (1951-1957) #4. Cheers (1982-1993) #5. The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966) #6. The Odd Couple (1970-1975) #7. Bewitched (1964-1972) #8. The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977) #9. NewsRadio (1995-1999) #10. Three’s Company (1977-1984) Many won’t agree with this list, but that’s okay. That’s what Top 10 Lists are about. I watch a lot of television, and I stand by my choices. It’s refreshing to have a Best of list which DOESN’T have “Seinfeld” as the #1 show. “Seinfeld” definitely deserves some respect, but I see it more as number twenty or so. For those of you who know me, you know this isn't my FAVORITE sitcoms list. If that were the case "NewsRadio" would be #1. I'm biased enough to know that it's not a better sitcom than "Taxi." According to me (and a few other Taxi fans), there's no sitcom that was better made than "Taxi."

yeah, I've only seen a few episodes of Taxi but when it used to be a filler on WPIX around 2002 and on N@N before that - but from what I've seen it's a very good sitcom.

I'm really not a fan of Taxi, Cheers, The Dick Van Dyke Show, or Newsradio. I never got into them, so yeah my list would be different.

I LOVE "Wings", as you well know. It's my third favorite sitcom. But when I was picking shows to put in this list, I just couldn't bring myself to include it. I would put it in a 50 Best Sitcoms List (not sure which number exactly). I didn't want this to be MY FAVORITE SITCOMS LIST, but rather a list of ten sitcoms I think could honestly be considered the 10 best. And even though I prefer "Wings" to "Cheers" I can't honestly say that "Wings" is a better sitcom than "Cheers." It's just one I like more. "Three's Company" is a lot sillier than the others in the list, and isn't one of the smartest written shows ever made. But it had a great cast who shared wonderful chemistry. It had both John Ritter & Don Knotts! So I added this to show that sitcoms don't have to be intelligent to be great sitcoms. |

To be honest, I can't decide what my top ten favorite shows are. I'm always changing. NewsRadio is always #1. Taxi is now #2. Wings is #3. I believe I would put Andy Richter Controls the Universe as #4. And probably Ellen or The Odd Couple as #5. Boy Meets World would be in there somewhere as would Curb your Enthusiasm. Mainly I wanted to do a Top Ten List that wasn't just Seinfeld and The Simpsons as the top two shows. |

It's an Acquired taste. And being me, I couldn't leave it off the list. However, I'm not the only one who thinks it's one of the top ten best sitcoms. Back in 1999, right after it ended, Entertainment Weekly had a top ten list for best sitcoms. It was #10. The other shows on that list were the usual: Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Roseanne... |

I couldn't come up with 10 sitcoms. I could only come up with 5 so far.
1) Married with Children 2) Simpsons (The 1st 10 Seasons) 3) Three's Company 4) Night Court 5) Newsradio (Season 1-4) I'm not counting the 5th season. 5th season was atrocious, boring, disappointing and disrespectful to fan(s), character(s), and the late actor/character. The writers and whoever approved the crap that was written or shown ruined it. Last edited by masterdkd : 08-06-2009 at 04:48 PM. |

That's a good list for the most part except IMO, I think "Honeymooners" is overrated and "Taxi" is good but not exceptional. Still, I think there's a very good selection on your list
