College basketball legend, and my good friend and fellow Sooner, Wayman Tisdale passed Friday morning. Tisdale was just elected to the College Basketball Hall of Fame this year.

Tisdale's passing comes after a two-year battle with cancer. His leg was amputated a little over a year ago.

Tisdale, a three-time All-American at Oklahoma, spent 12 seasons in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns.

he was a class act when he played here for the suns and many people forget he was a great musican also r i p wayman

When Tisdale played at Oklahoma in the mid-80s, we got to see a lot more about athletes than we did in the previous decade (thanks to ESPN).

When this guy played at Oklahoma, he was a true beast.

But I remember very well seeing a story on him at some point in the 80s, and it showed him playing a bass. Not in a show, just sitting around in his room, or maybe his dorm, if he was still in college.

It was pretty cool seeing a great basketball player also have an interest in playing music. From what I understand, he played by ear, and never really learned to read music "properly" (which is OK, neither did the Beatles).

As a basketball player, as talented as he was, he never seemed to have a true "killer instinct" out there on the court, but I think that this is true of a lot of players who have interests other than basketball. David Robinson was the same way.

Tisdale's first love was his music... IIRC, I think he might have played in the band at O.U. and the basketball team's practice schedule was re-arranged so that Tisdale could do that, plus he played in a band at his Dad's church.

He'll be missed...he was a good man.
