Default Room 222 - Season One DVD Review

It’s time to take a trip back to 1969 to Walt Whitman High School to Pete Dixon’s classroom in Room 222! Season One of the ABC Friday night staple from the late 60s and early 70s contains all 26 episodes from the 1969-1970 season.

The series was among the first series to actually focus on serious issues that affected high schools in America at the time. Of course, even the serious issues that they faced were handled in a light-hearted manner without too much chaos. The series starred Llyod Haynes as Pete Dixon, the history teacher in room 222 at Walt Whitman High. Denise Nicholas plays Liz McIntyre, the guidance counselor, and Karen Valentine plays student teacher Alice Johnson. The series was a success from the start and remained successful throughout its entire five year run.

Default Room 222

I remember watching the series when it was new,
and I think ONLY this first season had a laugh track,
if memory serves.

The main thing is these are uncut episodes, the subpar video quality won't really be an issue with me. Sometimes it's actually a benefit to have these older shows look their age, it creates a nostalgic atmosphere when watching the episodes. The only thing I would have preferred different is to have the episodes arranged on the four discs like this: 7,6,7,6, instead of 7,7,6,6. But that's a minor issue. I plan to order this DVD and look forward to see the episodes as I haven't seen this show in a rather long time.

I've never seen this show (at least not that I can remember) but have the set on pre-order. I jumped at the mistake amazon made when they had it listed for $10.99. I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this set because I've heard nothing but good things about this show. The video won't bother me as long as it is watchable. I am glad Shout! did the right thing by going with full length episodes of lower video quality, instead of going with better quality cut episodes.

I jumped at the $10.99 price too, I am really wondering if they will honor this, so far it's still in my cart at that price with a shipping date.....I will be shocked if we get this for $10.99!

We will get it at $10.99 because it says this on their site:

Amazon.com's price for not-yet-released items sometimes changes between the time the item is listed for sale and the time it is released and shipped. Whenever you pre-order a book, CD, video, DVD, video game, or software item, the price we charge when we ship it to you will be the lowest price offered by Amazon.com between the time you place your order and the release date. The order summary in Your Account will reflect the lowest price within 24 hours of the price change.

Please note that our Pre-Order Price Guarantee applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.

They also confirmed this in an email to me. Also, the price has not gone below a 14% discount since they corrected the error, so it appears they're planning to honor it and have to save as much money as possible by not lowering the price much lower. Those of us who jumped on it at this price really lucked out

The video quality is not too good, but at least it is unedited....
