Question Which show do you think will end its run first?

I don't think either show will end this decade.

I think L&O will be canceled first. It might be back next year but the ratings are so below what they used to be.

I'd say Law and Order. The Simpsons has been renewed for the next two seasons and will probably last longer than that. Law & Order isn't even guaranteed for next season, and with Leno coming to primetime that reduces the slots for NBC. I know Dick Wolf wants Gunsmoke's record broken but NBC might not agree.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with everyone else. Law & Order probably won't survive after this season, because of NBC's 'experiment' with the 10 O'Clock hour. I really fear the creation of new original programming at NBC, and think that a number of their shows will die premature deaths.

As for The Simpsons, this is Fox's workhorse series. It has anchored Sunday nights so long, it has literally become an American institution. As of next season, they break the number of years Gunsmoke was on, and I don't see any signs of slowing down! I think they will probably break the 25 year mark, and maybe longer.

I think if Law and Order ever got cancelled, civilization as we know it would come to a screeching halt. An entire generation has grown up to the familiar "In the criminal justice system...." and not to mention, all the actors that would be out of work.

I think both have a shot at staying awhile longer.

One time, Jay Leno had a spoof of the L&O opening when it was renewed for its 17th season: "In the criminal justice system, the people are...do I really have to tell you this every time? Your DOG knows it by now!" After that, the chung-chung sound.

I would say Law and Order. However, if it is cancelled, I would hope TNT would pick it up.

Law & Order will be gone before The Simpsons. Sadly, I don't think The Simpsons is going anywhere anytime soon.

I remember seeing that too. It was pretty funny.
