This is the first time I have ever listened to O&H as a radio series. And while it is not fair to judge an entire series based solely on one episode, I have to admit the Nelsons play better as a TV SERIES. The episode itself was ok, fairly pleasant, but nothing belly laughing. In my car, I've been listening to My Favorite Husband, Lucille Ball's radio precursor to I Love Lucy and I have had constant laughs listening to that. I am going to listen to other O&H radio episodes when I get the time, hopefully I will enjoy it more.

Yes, I like the tv show better too for O & H. My Favorite Husband is so funny, love those shows. Bea Benedaret Is the maid and she is hilarious to listen to.

Actually Bea was Iris Atterbury, the wife of Gale Gordon's boss character on MFH. Ruth Parriot played Katie the maid. And for which I say, I'm glad the maid character didn't transfer to I love Lucy--she wouldn't have fit.
Same here for Gloria, the maid on the O&H radio series. |

I've listened to quite a few of the radio episodes. I've always found them amusing. I haven't listened to any MFH.
Back in the late 90's I found a cd set of old radio shows. Ozzie and Harriet had 4 shows on the set so of course I bought it. I liked the shows a lot. Back when Napster was free, lol, I just happened to see something about old time radio. I searched Ozzie and Harriet and hit the Motherload! Tons of old Radio shows started popping up on my screen. I was in seventh heaven! I started downloading them all and checking for new episodes. I think I ended up getting like 40 or so O&H episodes. It was like finding lost episodes of Ozzie and Harriet. I saw them as a family with kids in an intermediate age, teenage, and young adult stages of life. It was great listening to them as a family with young children. I also had downloaded and listened to a radio show called Suspense that Ozzie and Harriet guested on. The 3 players are Ozzie, Harriet and Joseph Kerns. Ozzie and Harriet are a poor young married couple living with a wealthy elderly sick uncle. The uncle is very demanding, unpleasant, and keeps them under thumb with promise of his money. The uncle is upset with couple. He has called for his laywer. The couple is certain the uncle is going to write them out of his will. Sick and tired of his dominering ways and being dropped from the will after all they have put up with him, Ozzie's character has an idea to mess with the uncles medications so they can rid themselves of the burden. ..Suspense! I really enjoyed that episode. That was wild. Ozzie and Harriet, even as other characters, thinking of committing murder! And did they or didn't they??? |

I'm really getting interested in obtaining more old time radio, esp on CD so I can play them in my car--much more satisfying than the same songs heard a million times. My g/f said she will be making another CD for me with Fibber mcGee and Molly, and the Aldrich Family.

Really? I've read that it was Bea Benaderet and Lucy was so pleased that she really wanted Bea to have the part of Ethel on the tv series. |

Yes, Bea and Gale were up for the parts of the Mertzes, but Bea was contracted with Burns & Allen and Gale with Our Miss Brooks.
