Angry Yeah Guys, How About A Combined/Stickied Birthday thread?

Seriously, I refuse to step inside my "birthday" thread because it makes me feel like a friggin attention wh ore. Why don't you just combine and sticky one thread for birthdays and one thread for 25K post counts because I'm sick of seeing 15 of them on the board in a day.

Has anyone ever told you what a little ray of sunshine you are?

i think birthday threads should be (and have for the most part) be kept to a minimum, mostly for regular members, and post-count threads aren't too frequent so far.

yeah, not the most respectful attitude to have about your own birthday thread. janice isn't under any obligation to make them.

birthday threads have been part of this board for years and years. it's something i look forward to on all of my birthdays. if they were all merged together, i don't think they'd have much of an identity. i agree they should be posted more or less just for the regulars, and it seems like that's how it's been done. post count congratulatory threads for other members seem to have started just within the last year, but i don't see anything wrong with them. it isn't every day that someone reaches 25K, 50K, etc, so they don't come up very often anyway.

Attention whore? If you really wanted attention then this stupid thread takes the cake.

I had the same idea at one time but for logical reasons it wasn't used.

Sticky threads fill up quickly and they along with others are being locked at 1000 posts and it won't take long to reach that if all the birthdays are combined plus individual threads will never reach 1000 posts.

Talk about unappreciative! The birthday threads are for members to feel special on THEIR day. If you didn't want one, you could've easily PRIVATELY pmed a moderator or administrator, instead of making your self look like a total ass hole, as you do now. How rude of you to post this. You say you don't want to look like an attention whore, well now you look like a creep. Congratulations!

If you don't want a birthday thread, remove your birthday from your profile. It then won't appear on the birthday list, and nobody will even know it's your birthday. Most people like their own birthday thread.

I can delete your birthday thread, ekkostar. Just say the word.

While we're on the subject of birthday threads, if anyone wants to make their friend's birthday thread, just send me a PM, and I won't make the thread. I have no problem stepping aside. Also, if a person doesn't list their birthday in their profile, nobody should go ahead and make them a birthday thread anyway. There are people who don't want birthday threads, and that should be respected.

Regarding post count threads. Talk about overkill. I'm sick of looking at them, and I've given up posting in them, for the most part. People are getting threads for non-milestone counts which takes away from the ones that should be celebrated. If that keeps up, I'm sure we can expect a rule. It's always a few who ruin it for everyone.

Wow birthday threads have been a part of SO since I've been a member. I've always enjoyed reading them and posting in them. If you don't want a thread then take your birthdate out of your profile. Don't make a big issue of it. I think you made this thread just to bring attention to yourself. Attention Whore indeed.

That is one thing about this board that gives it that nice family atmosphere. You see a thread just for you and it's a special thing. I can't believe someone would complain about that.

I agree. I really appreciate all the work Janice goes through to get up all of the birthday threads.

I don't think ekkostar started this thread for attention, although I can see why some people would interpret their post as rude.

You bring up an interesting idea, ekkostar, but I prefer there to be individual birhthday threads; like safety pin said, a stickied birthday thread might take away the sense of identity. It's just something especially for the person, but if you don't want one then you can just let Janice know.

Oh No

I think this thread was a little rude myself.

SO has ALWAYS put up birthday threads for the regulars (and it is regular posters, if someone hasn't posted in years, they don't usually get birthday threads). Some of our members are isolated and it wouldn't surprise me a bit that a birthday thread is sometimes the best thing they'll get on their birthday (it was for mine last year).

I've stopped posting in them for the most part, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see them. Big deal, so you ignore them when you see them if you don't like them. It's like all the games, I'm not one to post much in them anymore, but I wouldn't ever dictate to the rest of the members that they bother me and should be made a sticky.

Besides, it's now getting to the point where half a board is taken up with just stickies already.

Sure glad I didn't post in YOUR birthday thread. Afterall, I would never want to make you look like an attention whore. Keep up with these threads and most members will do the same, and then where will you be?
