Also, I often see new threads of subjects that I covered before, but I don't merge them or even mention it. Subjects are bound to get covered a few times over the years.
That's a good example, as is the "how did your parents meet" thread, etc. I think you absolutely should be able to bump up threads you started as well. I'm sure there's a happy medium to be found here.

Five years from now, I'll be getting on Sitcoms Online (after a tough day at Space Kroger), see a thread titled "Please stop bumping up threads that are five years old". I'll open it up, start reading, only to find people have added new posts to THIS thread, lol.

In seriousness, I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other. But since it's a rule, obviously I'll follow it. Though I rarely if ever bumped up an old thread. Well maybe once on the "Wings" board and that was as a retrospective.

That's an excellent point, Allison.

Who cares what other sites do? It probably doesn't NEARLY have the amount of traffic this one does. I also belong to some other boards and one of them even refuses to bump up threads older than a month.
I agree. If another admin had made this threadi t wouldn't be questioned. It's not right that anyone question Janice's decisions.

I don't see why anyone would want to bump up a thread that is 7 or 8 years old. What really bugs me also is that when I did it a few times as a newbie years ago people here had major cows. They told me to stop, yet other people have, and other members haven't given them a hard time.

I think that, IMO, bumping up old threads should be against the rules for everyone, except for admins. and only moderators on the boards they moderate. Again just my opinion.

We've archived every thread on the main CC board that hasn't been posted in the last year. They will all be in the Chit Chat - Archives section. If somebody has a request that a thread be moved back to the main CC board, then we can do that. The threads in the Archive can be viewed but no new posts are allowed in them. Posts in the archive can be deleted unlike in locked threads.

that's because that was in 2004. the people, the maturity levels, and the moderation were different.

the archive was a great idea.

LOL. Ridic.

I don't like seeing old threads bumped up because I automatically assume they're new when they're really not, haha.

I think those who have questioned the rule have done so in a mainly respectful manner. I don't think they're being crybabies. I think they just didn't realise before now that bumping up extremely old threads is frowned upon by most people and they're questioning why they're being asked not to do something that they hadn't known was a problem.

To be clear, I actually agree that threads from WAY back (say more than two years) generally shouldn't be bumped up (although exceptions could possibly be made.) But I don't particularly mind if I see that a very old thread has been bumped up either.

I don't think you've mouthed off or disrespected anyone either, I think you've argued in a polite manner. I think there was one comment you made that seemed a bit sarcastic, about the board being run by old timers. That may have come across as a bit rude, although you probably didn't mean it that way.

SafetyPin was the one who said this board was run by 'old timers' I just replied to her comment. But anyways this is so stupid. I will reply to any damn thread that I want.

She didn't say the board was run by 'old-timers'

My guess is that she was referring to the members that have been here a longtime not the adminstrators.

You were the one who said the place was run by 'old-timers'

Correction I said 'old timers' (the ' ' means that it was said by someone else)

janice is an admin; she can issue new rules whenever a problem arises.

safety pin used the phrase "old timers" first, but it was you who actually said that the board is "run" by old timers.

Now I don't think that you meant that in a rude way - I just think that it possibly came across as a bit rude or sarcastic. I don't think you meant it to seem like that, though, and I do think you've been generally polite in this thread.

I don't think anyone is trying to start anything. You probably feel like people are picking on you but I don't think people are trying to make you feel bad. And of course you can respond to any thread you want, but now that it's been specifically requested that old threads not be bumped up, it would be best not to do that any more. (Actually, it seems now like it's impossible to anyway, now that the very old threads have been archived.)

Your right Sharop. Im not trying to be rude. I just felt targeted.

I was obviously the one who bumped up a few old threads. (Searching for cool topics since nothing really exciting was going on with the new threads, and out of sheer boredom.) Insted of Janice sending me a personal message to let me know not to do this privately. She put me on blast for everyone to see.

It turned out for the best though cause I love the new archives section that TJ created.
