Here's some Ann Sothern related trivia for the holiday season!
James Stewart wanted Ann Sothern to play Violet Bick, the good-time girl, in Frank Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life." Stewart and Capra offered to build the role up, but Ann refused. She suggested Gloria Grahame, an actress with similar features, who received the role. The book states Ann discovered her husband, Robert Sterling, had cheated on her with Gloria Grahame. I guess Ann thought a good-time girl was an appropriate part for her. I read this in Cordially Yours, Ann Sothern by Colin Briggs over the summer. |
