Default Only a minor development on Season 5 but please look:

Hi kids!
So I'm nearing the end of Season 4 of our favorite, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which got me thinking about how to obtain Seasons 5-7.
In doing some web surfing, I came across what appears to me to be previously-unknown-to-this-board contact information (phone and email) for an honest-to-goodness Fox Home Entertainment executive.
I phoned the gentleman, and while I would say he wasn't exactly receptive (at least he picked up), he did seem to be a legitimate decision-maker, and he gave me some interesting information.
First of all, he indicated that it is indeed, profit and loss that has slowed things on the release of TMTMS and other classic series...they didn't sell as many as they'd like and they don't really want to produce seasons without making a profit. No big surprise there.
Second, he did say that the situation is currently "bending back", that while some shows have stalled, the thought now may be to consider getting some of those releases back on track.
Finally, he claimed he "wants to hear from" people who like TMTMS, and asked about petition sites dealing with the show. I told him I would email him once again asking fox to put out seasons 5-7, and also include the links for the two biggest petition sites, and i since have done that.

Here's where you come in. I'm going to give his email address below, and while I'm not sure how much good it will do, if some of the people on the board write him, maybe at the very least it will move TMTMS up in fox's consciousness. Keep in mind he wasn't thrilled about the email addy being posted, but he appreciated the heads up.
It's my humble guess/opinion that this fellow may have a role in what gets released, and that if you're nice, passionate, concise, and we don't bombard the guy, it COULD help. I think it's worth a shot. I mean, I'm still gonna try to track down Seasons 5-7 before Fox puts them out on DVD, but if we can make the DVDs happen even a day faster, that would be great!!!...So here it is:

Steven Feldstein
Fox Home Entertainment
Senior Vice President, Corporate and Marketing Communications

steve.feldstein@fox.com

P.S. Interestingly, Mr. Feldstein told me that Fox GAVE the Oprah show the DVD sets that ms. winfrey gave to the audience at the recent TMTMS reunion. Certainly a very nice gesture by Fox, and by Oprah, and I only mention it because I'm thinking those won't really be counted as "sales", as had been speculated on in previous posts.

Ooh!! Even though I know this is far from a sure thing, it totally makes my day! After waiting so long, I'm thrilled to finally have SOME concrete answers at least. If this works, PGood, and we do get S5 soon, you'll officially be my hero, LOL.

I'm about to email Steve right now, and I'll link this thread on my site so we can get other fans to do so as well. I'm esp. glad we have an actual email address, since I was convinced that Foxdrop one was just a black hole, LOL. Anyway, thanks, PGood for making this call and letting us all know about it. If anybody emails and gets an actual response back, please post here. I def. will if I get one.

Thanks Kristen, but obviously it's a long shot.
And IMHO he may not write anybody back.
But he did strike me as being one of the guys who makes the calls on these things (he took the call on speaker phone, possibly across a big mahogany desk?), so it can't hurt that he's hearing from some TMTMS fans instead of those from newer shows.
I at least had to give it a shot, and thanks for doing your part!

P.S. I think foxdrop was, indeed, a big hole...probably somebody just sitting there looking at a release schedule and answering yes or no about whether particular shows were/are coming out.

Yeah, I know it's not much, but it's something! After having no idea what was going on in Fox's mind, it's nice to finally have a clue at least. And it's encouraging that they want to hear from us, so obviously they must be at least considering it. If we can all keep our emails civil, and resist the urge to beg (LOL), I think we do have a shot.

Thanks again for letting us all know about this.

Edit: In case anyone needs inspiration, here's what I wrote to him:
Dear Mr. Feldstein:
I got your e-mail address from the Mary Tyler Moore message board at sitcomsonline.com. I'm a huge fan of the show, and would really love to see the remaining seasons be released on DVD. Many of my favorite episodes are from the last 3 seasons, including the classic "Chuckles Bites the Dust." I know that there are many fans younger than me (I'm 26) who haven't even seen any of the episodes beyond the ones on DVD. I know that the show may not make as much money as some other shows do, but I hope you can take into consideration the feelings of the many Mary Tyler Moore fans.

Feel free to modify it for your emails.

Well done, Kristen.
It feels good that I at least had my say to a person who may actually have a part in the process.
Let the chips fall where they may, I guess!

Thanks! I was surprised I was able to be so civil, when what I really wanted to say was "Give us MTM Season 5 now!!!!" hehe. But I figured that wouldn't exactly bring results.

I'm SOOOOOOOOO ready for them to be released!!! It's not fair that younger people don't get to see them!!! (that's what I felt like saying in my email) It stinks I was born too late.

I've posted links to this thread on the IMDB board for TMTMS and one of my Yahoo groups. So the word is def. getting out there.

Monika, I was wondering if you had seen this thread. I was going to PM you to make sure. I knew you'd want to email Fox and plead for TMTMS and TBNS, hehe.

My email:

Dear Mr. Feldstein,

I found you're email adress on a Sitcoms Online message board, and I figured you were the gentleman to speak with on this issue. For awhile now, it has appeared as though the remaining three seasons of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" would not see the light of DVD. However, you could be the man to change that, and I hope you are. This is one of the most beloved and honered series of all-time, and one of my personal favorites. I believe it should be given it's due with a release, especially the season containing the "Chuckles Bites the Dust" episode, which is hailed by most as one of the funniest episodes of any series. Also, there is a great fan base for this show, and you would benefit greatly from releasing the rest of it. I, personally, would buy them the day they hit the shelves. Please keep this under consideration, as there are millions of eager fans waiting to obtain this gem of a sitcom.

Sincerely,
Justin Aldridge

How's that??

nice job, justin
that's just the kind of heartfelt email that hopefully will help our cause; it certainly won't hurt it
i was kind of hoping for more of a short-term response from this board, but i suppose if he gets a sincere email every few days for a while, maybe that will reinforce a broader interest in TMTMS
i mean, we're out here, and we'll buy the DVDs; maybe if they just don't make so many and don't expect to make a killing, it could work financially for them

Like I said before, I've been posting links to this thread in a couple other MTM groups and asking fans there to email, too. So God only knows how many emails this guy is actually getting. I figure if enough fans write in, and they explain how bad they want it, it might get his attention. It can't hurt us, right?
