Default Gilligan and Brady similar plots

I haven't seen a thread on this so I'll start a new one. There are a number of eipsodes in Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch That have similar plot lines.

This could be just coincidence, but I suspect that Sherwood Schwartz had something to do with it.

I'll post some I can think of off the top of my head but I'm sure the rest of you can come up with more.

In Allergy Time The Skipper develops an allergy to Gilligan but it turns out it is Gilligan's shampoo that he's allergic too. in Katchoo Jan is allergic to Tiger but it turns out to be his flea powder.

Default Double cross your beautician

In All About Eva Ginger helps out a "plain Jane" named Eva and then Eva becomes her rival.

In My Fair Opponent Marcia helps out Molly who becomes her rival.

The big difference between these two plots is that Molly doesn't look like or try to replace Marcia.

Default Cursed objects

in Waiting For Watubi the skipper is convinced that an old statue is cursed and is causing him bad luck.

In Pass the Tabu the boys are convinced that an old statue is causing bad luck to the Bradys.

Default You saved me, now I'm your slave

In Slave Girl Gilligan saves a young woman from drowning and she declares herself his slave.

In My Brother's Keeper Bobby saves Peter from getting hit by a ladder and Peter declares himself Bobby's slave for life.

Note that both Bobby and Gilligan were reluctant to accept the idea, the main difference is that Gilligan never accepted the idea whereas Bobby both accepted the idea and took advantage of it.

When they were scrambling for scripts for the second half of the last season, was somebody watching Gilligan's Island?

Wasn't there a Gilligan look-alike plot on GI?

Yes...i checked an episode guide and in Season 3, there's an ep called "Gilligan vs. Gilligan".

From: http://www.russell-johnson.com/The_P...ode_guide.html

"Another Castaway hybrid visits the island. This time a Russian spy who has undergone plastic surgery to look like Gilligan steals Mary Ann's pies and
pretends to be the first mate. The Professor concludes that Gilligan is going
through a psychological crisis." (Episode #70)

The BB, of course, had "Arthur Owens", who was a dead ringer for Peter

Good job, Six, in spotting the plot parallels between the two shows.

Although I watched G.I. for years, off and on, I'm not nearly as familiar with G.I.'s plots as I am with those of the BB

Just goes to show that Gilligan was much more mature than Bobby was....

Wow, did you ever think that Gilligan could be shown to be more mature than ANYBODY? I sure wouldn't have guessed it! Yeah, Bobby's just a kid, but still...

I never thought I'd use the words "Gilligan" and "mature" in the same sentence!! Could be a sign of the end times!

Nope. They merely looked at old scripts. I get the feeling that writers either search the archives at old scripts or they have a list of cliches of tv plot shows. And this is why writers go on strike?????

At one point on "Gilligan's Island" there was an episode in which, because of having eaten a certain type of seed, Gilligan was able to read peoples' minds. At first, everyone thought that this was amazing! However, by the end of it, people realized how the seeds had caused far more trouble than they were worth and that they needed to be gotten rid of. The Skipper was very happy to learn that Gilligan had burned every last one of them. I guess that you could say that, by a very remote stretch of the imagination this was like the children all jumping for joy when Mr. Brady said, "did you hear that all you other ghosts? This house is no longer for sale!" in "To Move or Not to Move". In both cases, we learned to be careful what we wish for because we just might get it! Several days ago, I posted a message on this topic called "Harvey is Back". I think that after I submit this message, I will bring that one back to the top and let a new generation of readers see what I mean!

Both GI and BB have an injured nose episode.
