Default Does anyone know any good public records sites...

on the criminal histories of death row inmates? I've been looking at the Florida death row roster and wondered what some of these guys did, but most of the older cases don't have much online. Also, are there any sites that predict what death sentences will be carried out next? Recently the Supreme Court ruled in favor of imposing lethal injection to carry out death sentences (thereby ending the moratorium on executions), so my governor (Charlie Crist) asked his staffers to provide him with a short list of possible candidates. I was wondering who he might have in mind, since there are close to 400 people to choose from.

I think I might have found it on my own: http://www.floridacapitalcases.state.fl.us/index.cfm
At least that is the one for Florida.

You mean a "death pool"? I'd like to know if there is a prisoner death pool.

Anyway, there is a web site called prodeathpenalty.com. It includes a list of scheduled executions.

Thanks, Kane. That's a great site.

It looks like it's going to be Mark Schwab that will get the needle next in Florida: http://www.floridacapitalcases.state...ils.cfm?id=362

Texas is certainly going to resume their record pace of executions.

So does the governor always choose who gets executed, then signs their death warrant? Or do certain people in the legal profession consult as to who gets chosen? I'm not sure how it all works.

A death sentence in Florida would seem to be difficult to predict seeing as there are quite a few of the death row inmates that seem worse than Mark Schwab and/or have been on death row much longer than him and I still have only read maybe 10 or 20% of the cases out of the 380+.

Well, when I said "prisoner death pool", I wasn't referring exclusively to death row inmates. It would include an assortment of prisoners, such as those serving prison sentences, in addition to those awaiting execution (especially inmates who are in failing health). Of course, it's like the infamous death pool of celebrities. I know that any kind of death pool is morbid, but a hypothetical one for prisoners (especially for the worst of the worst) has crossed my mind.

Going back on the topic of death sentences, I realize that Florida has had its share of inmates that have been on death row for decades. For example, serial killer Bobby Joe Long has been on Florida's death row since the mid-'80s. But Ted Bundy was on death row ten years before he finally had his date with Old Sparky.
