Another reason why I love this show! Just take a simple plot jumping point--Harriet admitting that the pancakes she made that morning were from a mix and not homemade and WHAM!......we have the makings of everyday life getting complicated
I love how Ricky claims the refund and then has the idea of getting more boxes to get more refunds (gee, Lucy would have that idea on The Lucy Show! ) Of course, where it really gets silly is the idea that the president of The Hasty Tasty Pancake Mix Company would actually pay a personal visit to the Nelsons and cook up a batch of pancakes (of course topped with ice cream and chocolate syrup!)."Heck, I don't mess around, boy!" Ricky ![]() So Rich and Honeybea, any thoughts on this one? Please others join in the discussion. ![]() |

Can you imagine the stuff we have seen on Norman Lear sitcoms ever being the plot on O&H?

But that's why I love O&H, because life is mainly about this everyday stuff and not the "BIG SOCIAL" causes on Norman Lear's shows

It was indeed a simple time back then.
Shows that were geared towards being funny and not giving a hoot abt political issues, social issues or causing controversy. |

Hi Jude & Irene. Nothing like a good Convo on an O & H ep. Just went back and saw The Pancake Mix again. I love the way Oz & Thorny keep screwing up the name Handy Dandy,Hanky Panky, Turkey Lurkey etc. but esp. that store clerk so plagued by "higher math". Now HE was a riot - all befuddled by having to multiply 47 by 2 --you'd think he was doing Integral Calculus LOL. Hope someone sadistic doesn't come in the store and ask how many ounces are in a "fifth"! Ha Ha. And Ricky at the end claiming the pancakes are the best ever while when everyone's backs turned, takes the cakes of the bottom and keeping plowing thru the chocolate ice cream, jam, etc -the little schemer! Now everyone be sure to go out and buy some Listerine (better than penicillin according to the commercials) ![]() P.S. "The Pajama Game" Ep on Disc #3 is a lot of fun!

There he is, Rich, my buddy, my pal! ![]() Ricky was quite the little shrewd financier ![]() The commercials are a SCREAM! Listerine for Dandruff???? Just watched "David's 17th Birthday"--the Mill Creek copy is much better than the other one I have (that one seems very edited) 007 Cologne??? oh my!! my mom is enjoying this set as well. I just wish Mill Creek could dig up another 100 episodes Imagine all the O&H's I have yet to see. |

Yes "Davids 17th Birthday" is a lot of fun - will re-visit it sometime over the weekend. Are you going to be making a thread on it?? ( And, WHAT AM I SAYING, all the eps are fun - BUT - some are just absolutely terrific like Rick The Drummer, Wally's Traffic Ticket, The Fraternity Rents A Room, etc.) |

Jude, I saw that episode for the first time about a year ago and loved it! Like you said, take a simple thing and make it so funny. I can imagine kids in that day and time actually trying this gimmick to make money. Ricky was so cute saying, "I don't mess around boy". He used this phrase a lot in his younger years on the show. Tutti Frutti ice cream is another favorite of mine. If you haven't seen the Halloween episode yet, pay close attention, Jerry Mathers "Beaver" has a small part.
There was also a commercial with Harriet about Listerine toothpaste in a few episodes. It sounds like Listerine was a cure all do all in those days. Glad you're enjoying the shows! |

Yep, I saw Halloween Party on a previous DVD I own, but it was the first one I watched on the Mill Creek collection. Was in the mood to watch some of the boys more grown up episodes tonight and will prolly post threads on them soon. Please feel free to post more often, Honeybea--it is a delight to talk to you and Rich (and anyone else) about the joys of Ozzie, Harriet, David and Ricky! And I'm not messin around, boy! ![]() |
