Angry laptop question im asking here because gateway customer service is a *****

i recently bought a new AC adapter on ebay for my laptop. it said it was compatible for the specific model of laptop i have. it didn't fit. i noticed the ac adaptors themselves had model numbers, and they were different, so i assumed that was the problem. so i ordered another one that was the same model as the other one (ADP-65HB BB is as specific as it gets) and it didn't fit either. they look exactly the same, except the new doesn't have as many company logos on the brick.
what is going on here...why are two of the same products from the same company with the same model number different from each other? is there some way to figure out what's compatible other than physically trying it out? i'm so confused, and i'm not wasting any more money on guesses at what i need.

the model is gateway MT6841. the pin isn't bent or damaged...the original ac adapter still fits, it just doesn't work.

strangely enough, I find at least 2 different part numbers for the adapter through Gateway, apparently they have them made by at least three different manufacturers.

They list the 2527829R65-Watt which is the 65 watt adapter and the 2521997R which is a 90 watt adapter, I can't find any find any info on which tip it uses.

which part numbers do you have on the original one and what watt rating is it?

a lot of aftermarket manufacturers will say that their adapters are compatible, but they sometimes need an adapter tip.

well, i don't know how much you have spent so far, but one safe option would be to try a universal laptop AC adapter like one of these:

well i couldn't really figure out how to work it because it has controls and such on it, but rather than learning about it, my dad is insisting we send it back because it "doesn't work". so...i really don't know what's going to happen now.

TJ wants the thread titles clean. As for ****ing, that's not allowed anyway. The rule is to type the swear out and let the system filter it. Just doing my duty here, Sarah.

Don't be sorry. Swearing doesn't belong on a TV-related message board anyway. And it's not necessary at all.

Right. And swearing isn't (and shouldn't) be allowed. It is rude and vulgar and offends many people (even those who don't speak up about it).

Fortunately, many young people agree:

oh please. i've seen administrators and respected moderators swear on here many times. people who are offended by it shouldn't be a PG-13 rated board.

"We are a PG-13 site ... Mild profanity is commonplace, as is close-form substitutions."

and i'm not jumping on that idiotic bandwagon.
