i recently bought a new AC adapter on ebay for my laptop. it said it was compatible for the specific model of laptop i have. it didn't fit. i noticed the ac adaptors themselves had model numbers, and they were different, so i assumed that was the problem. so i ordered another one that was the same model as the other one (ADP-65HB BB is as specific as it gets) and it didn't fit either. they look exactly the same, except the new doesn't have as many company logos on the brick.
what is going on here...why are two of the same products from the same company with the same model number different from each other? is there some way to figure out what's compatible other than physically trying it out? i'm so confused, and i'm not wasting any more money on guesses at what i need. |

strangely enough, I find at least 2 different part numbers for the adapter through Gateway, apparently they have them made by at least three different manufacturers.
They list the 2527829R65-Watt which is the 65 watt adapter and the 2521997R which is a 90 watt adapter, I can't find any find any info on which tip it uses. which part numbers do you have on the original one and what watt rating is it? a lot of aftermarket manufacturers will say that their adapters are compatible, but they sometimes need an adapter tip. |

well, i don't know how much you have spent so far, but one safe option would be to try a universal laptop AC adapter like one of these:

well i couldn't really figure out how to work it because it has controls and such on it, but rather than learning about it, my dad is insisting we send it back because it "doesn't work". so...i really don't know what's going to happen now.
