Default Dakota Fanning Refused to Shave Her Head For Film Role

http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=13&cs=1

Variety says that Dakota Fanning did not want to shave her head for her role as a girl with cancer. I guess she was hoping that she’d have that non-hair loss form of cancer. When Dakota left the picture over the hair issue, Elle took off, too. Abigail Breslin is going to be taking over Elle’s role and Medium’s Sofia Vassilieva will replace Dakota and, presumably, shave her head.

The movie is based on a book by Jodi Picoult about a girl (Breslin) who was conceived to provide blood and bone marrow for her older sister (Vassilieva) who has a rare form of leukemia. She gets sick of being harvested for her organs and tries to sue for medical emancipation. Also appearing in the movie, with all their hair, are Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, and Joan Cusack.

Oh man, that little girl has beautiful hair. Not that it isn't for a worthy cause if it's going to bring awareness to the subject, but her hair is gorgeous.

I've seen some very good bald wigs, caps and such, on tv and movies. Perhaps Dakota's hair was too thick for that or something. In any case, it's her hair, her career, her decision. I don't blame her, but that's just me. Wouldn't it be something if the actress who took over the role and did shave her head wins an Oscar, and thanks Dakota in her acceptance speech, lol.

Sigourney Weaver did it for Alien 3

Demi Moore did it for G.I. Jane

For everyone who did it, there are a bunch who wouldn't even consider it. Not many women want to shave their heads. especially gorgeous Hollywood actresses with huge egos.

true. Sigourney and Demi didn't look bad with their heads shaved, but a lot of women out there might look scary bald. While Sigourney shaved her head to fight the Alien... Erykah Badu shaved her head several years ago and her fans said she LOOKED LIKE THE ALIEN

She looks like she'd be ugly with hair.

Heh, I was one of these who shaved my head just last year... I'd do it again, lol.

Damn... Dakota is, what, 14 now? She STILL looks extremely young, and that freaks me out a little. (oh, she's just ABOUT to turn 14, according to IMDB)

Dakota is young looking for her age, and is using that to her full advantage while she's still able. I think she's an incredible actress who we'll be seeing for decades to come. She'll be like Natalie Wood, Liz Taylor, Brooke Shields, Jodi Foster and other child actresses who are talented. If you look at her resume on IMDB, she's been working nonstop for years now. For a while, I thought her looks would be a problem, but that was just the typical awkward tween years that most of us go through. I think she'll blossom into an elegant woman, with that soft, delicate style of beauty, like Gwyneth Paltrow.

True, true. I thought of that when I realized how old she is now. When she hits her twenties, she will still seriously look like a teen - so it won't be that difficult for her at all to secure 'teen' roles. It just freaks me out a little right now with her being under a week away from turning 14 and looking like she's about 10/11 years old yet. Right now, it's just plain weird... but she will have such a HUGE advantage when she's older.

I did notice her resume too... she is amazing! I can definitely see her being an actress, even beyond the senior citizen years. I have no doubt that she will be very blessed in the looks department, even then. That is one actress who really seems to have her head on her shoulders.

Judith Light did it for the play "Wit" too. Just wanted to mention that because I'm a fan of hers.

It's funny that when you think of it, male celebrities shave their head all the time and it's not a big deal. I remember the hoopla made when Britney shaved her head last year.... she used to date Justin Timberlake, who has shaved his head many times and it's never been a big deal outside of the "shaved head vs. curly hair" segment of his fanbase.
