David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson of 'The X-Files'"X-Files" fans, starved for a new film since 1998, won't have to wait that much longer.
The trade papers are reporting that after years of rumors and false starts, not only will the currently untitled "X-Files 2" begin production in December, but it will be ready for release on July 25, 2008. That's a pretty quick window for the Chris Carter-directed film, which is based on a script from Carter and Frank Spotnitz. Naturally, nobody's going to tell you a darned thing about the plot for the movie except that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will be back as Mulder and Scully and that they'll probably be investigating something mysterious, something that leads them one step closer to "the truth," whatever that is. We hear it's out there. Set to be distributed by 20th Century Fox, "X-Files 2" will shoot in Vancouver with Carter and Spotnitz producing as well. Despite the fast that studios are already filling up weekends in 2009 and 2010, the "X-Files" sequel has landed on what currently stands as a fairly quiet frame next summer. As of now, only Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's "Step Brothers" and an untitled Ice Cube comedy are set for release that day. "X-Files" ran on FOX from 1993-2002, winning a slew of Emmys along the way. The 1998 "X-Files" feature made more than $185 million worldwide.

I just hope it's not "rushed"... if you get what I mean. Because that's a FAST release!
Also I had heard it was a "stand-alone" episode type movie. I was looking forward to that... Oh well we'll see...
