Weber Wings it to Resurrected NBC Sitcom
Link
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Steven Weber is returning to NBC and the half-hour format as the star of the network's comedy pilot "Zip." He will play Trip Stringer, a guy with no money living in Beverly Hills who, with the help of his Latino partner, Hugo, and a colorful cast of accomplices concocts one scheme after another in the hopes of making it big and securing the glamorous Beverly Hills lifestyle for his three children. This is the second incarnation of "Zip," which originally was ordered as a pilot by NBC last year. That pilot, starring Rob Huebel, didn't make the cut in May, but when independent producer Ben Silverman took the reins of the network in June, he put the project back in development. Silverman's Reveille production company was one of the project's producers. In addition to his starring role on "Zip," Weber appears on ABC's drama "Brothers & Sisters" this season as a love interest to Sarah (Rachel Griffiths). Weber is coming off his acclaimed performance as corporate executive Jack Rudolph on the NBC drama "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" last season. He has a long history with NBC in the half-hour comedy arena going back to his starring role on "Wings." He also starred on the network's sitcom "Cursed" and did an arc on "Will & Grace."

I hope it's a hit. Steven is such a talented actor. It's a shame he's not more popular. He certainly has more talent and class than a lot of other celebrities do.

Is the show coming out soon or is it doomed by the writers strike?

Errr, any show where the character is given a goofy name (Trip Stringer) is never a good sign. Plus a convoluted plot (he was hexed by a woman on "Cursed", trying to scheme in this new show). Don't they know Steven thrives in a straight-forward, character-driven ensemble?? Though STUDIO 60 was a bomb, he showed his chops on a serious show with good supporting actors around him.
