...As I didn't know until today, Todd Helton played both baseball...and football...at the University of Tennessee. And at one point during Helton's junior year, Helton was in fact the starter for UT - ahead of Peyton Manning.

Then Helton got hurt, and Peyton got the starting job. And after actually seeing Manning play, Helton decided to go to baseball full time and stay out of Peyton's way. He was then drafted by Colorado the next summer.
