Default Surprise

I am going to have to say that it "really" surprises me that a show with a star as beautiful and talented as Lea Thompson has as few posts as it dose! I would think that a lady like her would have people from all around "showering" her with complements! If you look down, you will see that the last two posts on this page were started by me. Each one got a few responses and I responded to these responses. I am hoping that by starting this new thread, I will be able to get the ball rolling again. Anyone who has read the post titled "Return of Sudsy Guy" knows that that is my all-time "favorite" episode! I would be "very" interested in knowing what other fans think of that episode or my posts about it! The last time I checked, (which was last night) I was the most recent person to post on the "Caroline in the City" page on a site called "Jump the Shark". As some of you probably know, there is also a site called "The 90 Faces of Lea Thompson". This site has a message board and a guest book. As of last night, I was also the last poster on both of these pages. Before the night is over, I will re-check both of these sites and see if anyone has posted in the past twenty-four hours. If I have not already fallen asleep after that, I might even come back to this page and see if I have already gotten lucky! Take care everyone.

hi smartboy! it's waiching here! um i think i had previously responded to your posts in regards to the sudsy guy episode by saying how much i disliked watching it. i read somewhere else that this show hasn't been released in the US. is this true and as CITC is hardly shown on tv nowadays. i think that had this been released on dvd in the US or whatever, then i'm sure there would've been a couple of posts on the show, seeing as people such as yourself had purchased it. i am going to visit adam's 90 faces site and perhaps post a few messages on there as well.

i already have all 4 seasons of CITC on dvd myself and so i would've posted a few posts but there has been very little people posting in the CITC section on this website. which is why i rarely post anything, but i'll think of something to get the ball rolling once again. anyhow, take care and i'll drop by at the 90 faces site

I am "very" happy that at least one person has posted a new message on this site! So far today, I have checked "The Brady Bunch" and "Gimme a Break!" pages of this site and there is nothing new. After posting this message, I plan on going to all of the pages on this site that I regularly check and see if any more fans have posted anything in the post twenty-four hours or so. Later tonight, I am hoping to make it to the "Jump the Shark" site as well as the "90 Faces of Lea Thompson". I am "very" anxious to see if there is anything new in any of these places! If I have not fallen asleep by then, I might even come back to this page and see if anyone has responded to this! Take care for now.

With "Back To The Future" actress Lea Thompson was the Julia Roberts of the early eighties. However choosing the role of Beverly in, "Howard The Duck" abruptly ended any follow-up succes after that. Still with her good looks and that unforgettable smile with dimples, Lea was still a popular actress throughout the eighties and early nineties. I was a huge fan of, "caroline In The City" and was appalled that the series ended with a cliffhanger. I've always felt that the show did not deserve the critical bashing it recieved throughout it's four year run. It was always a better show than say, "Suddenly Susan" or "Veronica's Closet" to which it was always compared to. Anyhow, "Caroline In The City" always deserved better just like it deserves a complete series dvd release here in the United states. A few times, I've wanted to purchase the set from the United Kingdom but have read horror stories about how some dvds work and some don't and how they are chronologically out of order. According to videoETA, "Caroline In The City" is a prospective dvd release and will be in the near future. Until then I'll just have to wait and wait and wait.

hi leathompsonfan1! nice to know that there is someone out there who is a fan of the show like myself and smartboy. like yourself, i loved CITC and i was gutted when it was cancelled 8 years ago. anyhow, even though it was mocked a lot by a lot of people i still tuned in because it was funny, had great characters and great storylines and episodes. well if you discount the last ones in season 4 when it was eventually cancelled that is. i already own all the seasons, although technically i never actually saw the last one when it was actually televised on cable tv.

and yes you're right, it didn't deserve to be bashed and ridiculed. but i suppose that most of the criticism in regards to the changes to the show and the narrative later on was somewhat justified. i hated the office which was brought in, i didn't like the way the writers handled the caroline and richard relationship, getting rid of remo was stupid and to rub salt in the wounds giving caroline another love interest in the shape of randy and richard finding out he had a child, was just OTT.

btw, seeing as i own the region 2 dvd set, i can tell you that the episodes are not in chronological order and that the sound varies from the excellent to poor with numerous eps.

Hi back to ya, Waichingliu81!
I remember well the critics declaring, "Caroline In The City" as being a ratings hit just because it followed, Sienfield" on Thursday nights and maybe that was true to a degree. However, during the second season, I remember the show still doing well in the ratings even after it was moved to Tuesday nights. In my opinion, it was the third season that saw the beginning of, "Caroline's" downfall. Still, I watched it faithfully even though I was in shock that Lea's hair was given a buzz cut, lol. Season four, I barely remember because like you, I hated the fact that the ensemble cast was moved into an office. The writing was bad and yes, I too was dissapointed with the way the Richard and Caroline story was being treated. I knew that season five would bring Richard and Caroline together finally. But season five never came. I was always hopeful that a reunion show whould take place but considering it's been seven to eight years, not likely. My favorite episode was the one in which Richard and caroline kiss in the rain. Season one maybe?

the first two seasons were a hit- it was funny, charming and great. just perfect i loved it. i actually liked the 3rd season a lot because it was really interesting, although i disliked the storyline with richard being married to julia. having said that, i liked it because by then the show took a different approach in regards to the caroline and richard 'will they/won't they?' romance theme. thankfully though richard's marriage didn't last long and thus, he and caroline got together at last.

with the fourth season, there was too much unneccessary change that wasn't needed. all the writers had to do was to stick with the original formula which worked so well during the first two seasons. unfortunately, the writers kept changing, there were inconsistencies with various storylines and ideas that had no bearing on the actual narrative of the show. plus, there were ideas thrown in that made no sense whatsoever- such as randy's appearance, for eg. another thing that made no sense was how come caroline was attracted to someone else, whilst she was with richard- of whom she'd always had feelings for anyway. besides, the issues he had with children?

in regards to season 5, i read somewhere that the creators, marco penette, dottie dartland, fred baron, as well as the writers intended to go as far as 5 seasons of caroline in the city. and so because the show was cancelled and thus, we had only 4 seasons of CITC, it never happened. the truth is it was highly likely that the show would've ended for good on season 5, with possibly the wedding of caroline and richard to tie things up.

caroline in the city was a great show, which as much as i loved it and is still my favourite, just didn't realise its full potential. and it is because of the changes in the show, the storylines etc that it never fulfilled that potential

it was in season 1, although they never did kiss when they were standing in the rain. the title of the episode was 'caroline and the proposal' and it was when del proposed to caroline and richard after hearing this, secretly had feelings for her. although he ends up sleeping with the employment agency worker named maddie!

CITC was one of my favorite shows in high school. Caroline and Richard were my fave characters.

Thank you waichingliu81 for reminding what episode that. It is one of my favorite. Since I've not seen any of the episodes since they originally aired, my memory maybe somewhat vague so correct me if I'm wrong. Two other favorite episodes of mine are the ones in which Caroline has Richard hang some of his art in a gallery that features gay artists and where Annie gets Caroline, Richard and herself cast as extras in a film with Robby Benson. Again, correct me if I'm wrong but those are just a few episodes that stick out in my mind. Gosh as I type this, a flood of memories of past episodes are starting to come into mind. The Thanksgiving episode where Caroline's balloon runs loose through Macey's parade and hits the float that carries Florence Henderson was hilarious. Does a swat team end up shooting the balloon? I also liked the one where Caroline purchases the antique desk and while moving it into her apartment, Richard gets stuck in the doorway. I believe Caroline mentions Richard as having a tight ass, lol??? Anyhow, I loved this show and still do. One of the highlights for me as being a fan of the show was watching Richard and Annie cut each other down with degrading remarks. It was absolutely hilarious! Amy Pietz, you just got to love her and her performance in the show was one of the best things about, "Caroline In The City". Yes, it's a shame this show didn't realize it's full potential!

no problems leathompsonfan! anyhow, the first episode you were referring to is caroline and the gay artist, the second one was caroline and the movie where caroline, richard and annie are cast as extras in a film, the third is caroline and the balloon where there is a thanksgiving parade and the fourth was caroline and the watch. all of them that i have mentioned came from season 1.

oh and richard and annie's wind-ups and pissing one another off was another hilarious aspect of the show . hopefully when the show is released on dvd in america and fans such as yourself do purchase it, we should then get more posts and threads on the caroline in the city message board on this site

caroline in the city is actually my favourite show, despite the fact it has a very small following here in the UK. and same here monika. i love caroline and richard. they were and are my favourite characters. even though it has del, annie and charlie and remo of whom are all great, the show is centred around caroline and richard after all

Waichingliu81, I need your opinion or anyone else out there that loves, "Caroline In The City". I'm growing very impatient with the powers that be to release, "CITC" on dvd here in America. So, should I take the chance and purchase the boxed set thats been released in the U.K.??? I've read that seasons 1,2 & 4 are region free and that season 3 is region 2. Which means all but the fourth season would play on my dvd player. I can handle the episodes not being in chronological order and even the quality of the picture wouldn't matter. It would suck not to have all the seasons on disc but who knows if and when "CITC" will be released in the United States. So, should I wait or give in to temptation, lol? Apparently it's going to be released some time or another but no specific dates have been given. Thanks to those of you who can offer some advice.

i understand your frustration. its kinda ridiculous that this show hasn't been released in the US officially, seeing as it is a american made show after all. check this website out, it actually sells caroline in the city on dvd, all four-that's right four seasons for only $63.99

as it is region-free, it will and should play on region 1 dvd players in the US. i've searched other sites to see if they stock it, but tv addicts.tv is the only one that sells the complete set, so that's the entire series

http://www.tvaddicts.tv/movie/comedy..._the_City.html

unfortunately, it doesn't have the contact details of the company who sell the product. if i were you i'd buy it, because tv addicts.tv is the only site who sells the entire set. besides, if you purchase it, this way, it'll save you money and you won't have to purchase the seasons separately

Thank you Waichingliu81 for the advice! I'm thinking i'll go ahead and order "CITH" from the website you mentioned. When I do, I'll let you know when it arrives. We then can have a "CITC" party, lol!
