Default Sound or Silence?

In your living environs, what do you prefer?

Do you need sound ... TV, music, human convo, or any other auditory stimulations?
What, when, why?

or ....

Do you appreciate the sound of silence? Still, peaceful, tranquil....

I've got two little boys one is 3 and the other is 1... I LOVE silence, when I can get it.

I like radio or TV on in the background during the day when I'm home; but when I've had enough, I turn everything off and enjoy the silence for a few hours.

At bedtime, about the only sound that doesn't bother me is a radio, that is set to turn off automatically in an hour. (I'm usually asleep well before that, however).

What would really irritate me when I lived at my parents house was the fact that they always had to have the tv on. All day long it was on, and for some reason it felt to my as though it was always on too loud. There was no escape from it. Nearly every room had a tv in it.

Now that I live on my own, I don't even have cable, thank God!

Additionally, at work, be it my last job or my current one, I've always held a job that had some sort of machine making a bunch of noise. For 40 hours a week I endure much noise, plus the occasional radio when a co-worker manages the procure one.

At home I prefer silence. It's how I recover.

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I like hearing nothing, sometimes I like music playing. Tv's not on unless I'm actually watching a show. After work, sometimes silence is golden (I work at an elementary school...there is no such thing as quiet).

Sleeping, 9.8/10 I need a fan on for noise. During the summer it serves 2 purposes; winter it faces a wall or something. Radio keeps me awake a lot because I find myself singing along, and I have enough trouble turning my brain off as it is! I need white noise.

I watch tv a lot but every now and then I really love just the silence you know just thinking and looking out the window.

Complete silence drives me absolute bonkers. I need to have some sound going at all times - a fan, some birds outside, the music in my head. Something.

The only time I want complete silence is at night when I'm trying to get to sleep and/or sleeping.

Year-round I have a fan going to drowned out any noise while I sleep.
When I'm reading a book or newspaper or balancing the check-book, I like it quiet.
When I'm on the computer, I have the CD player going.
We only turn the tv on when someone is actually going to try to watch it.

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I love having the radio on or people around. Other times, I just need to be left alone in silence.

It really depends on my mood, I guess. I do like to have some sort of noise in the background in the daytime (birds chirping, music, etc), but when I'm trying to sleep--forget it! I need complete silence (unless I have anxiety, then I'll sleep with the t.v. turned on to Cartoon Network, which for some reason soothes me).
