When Herman thought the end of the world was coming, he had Lily and Marilyn in the closet with him. He then grabbed Grandpa and took him into the closet as well. WHERE WAS EDDIE???? If he was so afraid, why not get your son from where ever he was at and bring him into the closet as well?

And what made Herman think the closet was safe, if Martians invaded or blew up the earth no closet would be safe. LOL
