So far I would have to give ION a failing grade since it's new inception was announced nearly one year ago.....

too many programming deals were announced with not enough programming hours to give them any justice or room to grow...we have seen the following series added and discarded in a matter of months...

Partridge family
the monkees
growing pains
green acres
charlie's angels
welcome back kotter

alice was certainly a bright spot and still is being given a chance...

but the recently announced fri-sun movie deal only strays from the format and steals another night of sitcoms from us.......

moral court is a terribly dangerous move that could take the network in another very poor direction.....

basically ION has tried too many directions in too short of a time literally...sqeezing in too many shows in 5 short hours with no continuity...

Moral Court into Amen.......different audiences
Amen into Alice.....different audiences
Alice into Mama.....not bad
Mama into Diagnosis.....risky
Diagnosis into The wonder years....very odd

television scheduling is about keeping and growing an audience....in these ever changing times you can't expect a loyal audience to remember to tune to alice at 7:30PM if there is nothing similar scheduled around the series.

I'm afraid by the time ION expands we may see Moral Court and the like three times a day!

I'd have to agree. ION is really losing my interest. I was really excited for Alice and Amen, but after watching every night they're losing my interest, which is probably why there isn't a season set yet for them.

This cold just be a slow month, because July is going to be spectacular, hopefully.

I think it is selfish and ridiculous to say that the RHI deal "only strays from the format and steals another night of sitcoms." ION never said that they were gonna turn into all sitcoms, all the time, no matter how much people want to believe otherwise. They are free to show whatever they want.

If an audience was loyal to a particular show, they would tune in to it no matter what comes on before or after it. If someone isn't watching "Alice" because they don't like "Amen," they really should not be calling themselves a loyal fan of the show. I watch "Alice" every night in its timeslot, but not "Amen" (I love the show, but I've seen the episodes too many times), and there's no problem in it for me. But I do agree that scheduling should be done on a more pairing-like basis. Pairing shows together usually works as a way of making new fans. I remember I loved watching "Designing Women" on Lifetime back in the day, then I started watching "The Golden Girls" after it one morning, and now I can't think of watching one without the other (even though Lifetime has unfortunately made that possible).

Personally, I think "Mama's Family" leading into "Diagnosis Murder" is perfect. If my grandmother was still alive, I know she'd be watching those two hours nightly. I think it'd be kinda cool if they came up with a cable channel targeted directly to the older crowd.

The current 6-11pm must be clicking because the ratings are decent. They are trying to build different audiences I bet and it is working. Mama's Family and Diagnosis Murder ratings are excellent.

I personally have no major complaints with the shows that currently air on Ion. Amen is perfect at 7 PM for me if my local station decides to air an episode of The Simpsons that I don't care for, and I've been watching Alice every night I can (I've been waiting for YEARS for a station to pick this up). Mama's Family works out for me also, whenever there's nothing on at 8 PM, I can just watch that. Haven't had the chance to see Moral Court yet, but I will soon and I can't wait. Really enjoyed watching that in its initial run. I'm ready to see what they have to offer when they expand.

And I'm glad they're not showing ALL sitcoms. If they were, we probably would not have seen Charlie's Angels.

As long as The Wonder Years gets two full series run-throughs, they can do anything they want...I accidently waited too long on that favorite show of mine to finally set a schedule to watch...is it getting good ratings?

We are both entitled to our opinions and I respect yours but using the phrase
"selfish & ridiculous" is a bit ridiculous....my opinion comes with my still current 27 years working in the television programming industry. I certainly know that ION can run whatever they want as you point out.....my point is
ION has too many programming deals (at least 3 studio package deals) and not enough hours to properly utilize them. I have no problem with the RHI deal but putting double movies on Fridays strays from the monday-friday schedule. A viewer should expect continuity, it is hard enough to keep an audience without making them remember that all of a sudden Mama's Family isn't on Fridays anymore. Also movies are very selective viewing.... drawing different audiences with each movie title. ION seems very eager and confused grasping and waiting for high ratings....somewhere there is a thead with a quote from pav saying that for one week The wonder years is moving to 9PM because of a special poker tournament...that alone is a funny statement.....I don't want ION to follow in the footsteps of the horrible programming folks at TV land that actually watch the ratings daily and are now known for almost daily program changes. Shows and audiences need time to be built, build it and they will come but know what you want to build first!

RHI doesn't own sitcoms.
