May 9, 2007 -- WHAT'S a curmudgeon like Larry David doing in an upcoming episode of "Hannah Montana" on the Disney Channel?
He's doing what he often does on his HBO series, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" - arguing with a restaurant maitre d'. The scene - in which David, 59, appears with his two daughters, Cazzie, 12, and Romy, 10 - occurs in the "Hannah Montana" episode airing May 18, a week from Friday. It came about after producers approached the mega-rich co-creator of "Seinfeld" after a "Hannah Montana" taping he attended with his girls. "Like a lot of celebrities, Larry came to a taping with his daughters," said Adam Bonnett, senior vice president of original programming for Disney Channel. Indeed, celebrities with kids who love the hit Disney series about a superstar singer (played by Miley Cyrus) who also lives a normal life as a Malibu teen teenager are flocking to the Hollywood studio where "Hannah Montana" is filmed, Bonnett reported. Kim Basinger was in the audience with her daughter, Ireland, at the same taping attended by David and his daughters several months ago. Beach Boy Brian Wilson was spotted at a recent taping and "Goodfella" Ray Liotta attended just last Friday. Heather Locklear's appearance in the audience recently led to her own guest shot as the mother of Hannah's friend, Lilly (Emily Osment, little sister of Haley Joel Osment). Locklear's episode airs later this season. As for David, it didn't take long for him to say yes to the producers' invitation to film a cameo appearance. In the scene, he shows up without a reservation at a hot Hollywood restaurant where the maitre d' (Jorge Luis Abreu) refuses to make a table available for David and his daughters. However, when Hannah also shows up without a reservation, he enthusiastically makes room for her and Lilly. "Face it, Dad, she's bigger than you!" says Cazzie, who adds, "Bet Uncle Jerry could get us in!" - a reference to David's friend, Jerry Seinfeld. "He was really busy with 'Curb' and like any parent who wants to do something special for their kid he just made it work," Bonnett said of David, who refused to be interviewed. Bonnett conceded that "Hannah Montana's" kid viewers won't likely know who David is, although their parents will. "We knew going into this that kids are not going to go, 'Oh my God! It's Larry David!' " he said. "But in the same way that [Disney-owned animated film producer] Pixar in their movies can layer in some stuff for the adults, it is always our goal for a parent and a kid to watch things together and enjoy it." http://www.nypost.com/seven/05092007...am_buckman.htm
