CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A 1-year-old boy died Tuesday after being left alone in a car for nearly seven hours as temperatures inside climbed to 142 degrees, Chattanooga police said.
Timothy Reid was found unresponsive by his father, Robert Reid, around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. Emergency responders pronounced the infant dead at the scene. Reid, 43, faces charges of criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child abuse and neglect, Chattanooga Police Lt. Tim Carroll said in a statement. Police said Reid took his three other children, ages 6, 10 and 12, to school Tuesday morning and had intended to take Timothy to daycare before driving to work at a local shipping business. Investigators said Reid failed to drop off Timothy and instead left him in a car seat located behind the driver's seat when he arrived at work around 8:30 a.m. The Chattanooga Fire Department performed a thermal imaging reading of the Reid's 2002 BMW M5 and found the temperature inside to be 142 degrees. The outside temperature Tuesday reached 89 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

I find it hard to believe that some people are actually stupid enough to leave a child in a car like that but unfortunately this isn't the first time and I have no doubt that it won't be the last.

HORRIBLE! No excuse. I hope whichever idiot(s) responsible gets locked up for life and they throw away the key.

I can't believe this has happened again - even if by accident, there's no excuse anymore. After some of the cases a couple of years ago, the media went nuts about "forgetting" your kid in the car. This one sounds particularly weird considering he had other kids he took care of.
The other thing that strikes me is when you hear they types of cars they get left in - highend ones. It's like the "rich" have so much else on their minds.....getting to work....getting spa treatments, etc.. Maybe they should stop and give their heads a shake on their true priorities. I get angry just seeing pets left in cars (even with the windows cracked open, that isn't enough most times). To me, if you're running errands or something and it's hot, get a babysitter and leave the kids and pets at home or bring them in with you. Hell, I don't even like leaving a bottle of water in the car to get hot!

Something similar to this happened where I live and it was all over the news. The father was supposed to drop off his kid at the daycare center but he forgot and drove to work.
How can people leave a kid in a car and not notice it?

It makes me so mad when people do such a horrible thing like this. I don't buy this crap about forgetting the child in the car; no excuse. I can understand people forgetting clothes, groceries, things like that but to forget a child=> no way; I don't buy it for one minute. ![]() |

Did no one else notice the child in the car? Was he parked in an area where NO ONE ELSE PARKED BESIDE HIM? Bizarre. ![]()

Some disturbing news from Chattanooga police about the death of a 15-month-old boy left in a sweltering car.
Officers say the boy set off a motion detector alarm several times before the father charged in the death turned the alarm off remotely from his nearby office. Robert Reid is charged with criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child abuse and neglect in the boy's death. He was released on a $15,000 bond pending a May 23rd court hearing. Police said the child was unresponsive when discovered about 3:20 p.m. in a car seat in the father's BMW M5 sedan parked outside the business owned by his parents. Officers said the boy was overlooked when Reid drove him with three other children to school. The outside temperature yesterday reached 89 degrees. Chattanooga fire officials performed thermal imaging of the car and the test showed the temperature inside was 142 degrees. |

I hope they throw the book at this moron, and that he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They should lock him up forever and throw away the key. I don't buy any of these reasons. 15 month olds are NOISY. How could someone have "forgotten" he was there??

Again, how could no one else who parked beside his car NOT NOTICE THE CHILD SCREAMING, CRYING? |
