...of the Top 17 Sitcom Supporting Characters of All Time!!
OK, so it's a parody, but I too approve of his choice in neckties! **** 4. James Noble - Governor Gatling, Benson: Republicans and Democrats can agree on one thing -- Benson's Governor Gatling is a winner by a landslide. "James Noble's brilliant portrayal of the governor was what inspired me when I was starting out my first term in Arkansas," recalls an awe-struck Bill Clinton. "It always gave me such a chuckle the way he would tell meandering stories without any sort of a point and how he just talked and talked and talked. It's a speaking style I would later adopt for myself." "I like how he appointed a former butler as his state budget director," said House Speaker Newt Gingrich. "That and his choice in neckties." Whether it was the ties around his neck or the ties that bound him to smart-talking Benson, tart-tongued Krauss, precocious Katie and inveterate suck-up Clayton Endicott III, Governor Gatling was our favorite chief executive, too. Bumbling but well-meaning, naive but tall, Gatling's approval rating topped the charts, thanks largely to Noble's own winning personality. "I was so close to Jimmy that for a while, I was considering declaring emancipation from my parents so that he could adopt me," said Missy Gold, who played Noble's TV daughter, Katie. "He was just that cool." This is one governor who won't have to worry about any re-election campaign. As far as we're concerned, Noble's Governor Gatling could declare martial law, establish a brutal, authoritarian regime and install himself as dictator-for-life in our hearts. Like Gold says, he's just that cool. http://www.teevee.org/archive/1998/0...upporting.html |
