Default Canadian UFO

At 10pm on 18 August 1991, Diane Labenek began to hear her dogs barking outside. She looked out the window and saw red flames burning up on the hill. The fire seemed to be centrally located at one spot, which is unusual considering the area was full of dry grass. She then saw a ship land close to the flames. The ship had a blue flashing light on the top and a bright light on the bottom. She stared at the object for around 10 minutes. After the 10 minutes, the ship hovered up behind the trees and disappeared. Also, the fire mysteriously went out. She did not contact police.

About 10 minutes later, a helicopter appeared seemingly out of nowhere. It flew above the area where the lights were. It then flew over Diane's house and flew away.

The next morning, Diane went up to the site to investigate. She found no evidence of what she saw the night before.

In 1992, 6 months after the sighting, a package arrived to Bob Oechsler in Maryland USA from Canada. The package had no return address, and contained photos and documents relating to the UFO sighting, as well as a video tape labelled "Guardian" along with a single fingerprint. The video contained footage of what Diane described happened that night.

Oechsler decided to go investigate. They decided to interview Diane because she had previously reported another sighting in 1989. When Diane described what she saw, she described exactly what was on the tape. She was then shown the tape and she confirmed that that was what she saw. The craft appeared to be silent, as only the barking dogs can be heard on the tape. There was no power generator heard, if this was staged, the generator would have been necessary to run the lights. The object was too large for it not to leave any evidence of a hoax.

Since the 1991 incident, helicopters have been seen flying over the area regularly. Witnesses say the helicopters are either black, green or maroon in colour, they are unmarked and have darkly tinted windows. The Canadian military denies any involvement in this incident. Nobody knows their purpose.

The key to this case is the man who filmed the incident. Experts believe it is highly unusual that somebody was out that night with a video camera, and just happened to come across a UFO sighting by chance. Oechsler believes that whether or not the event was real or a hoax, he believes that "Guardian" knew the event was going to happen.

Experts also state that the letter "Guardian" sent has to many errors for it to be credible. Also in the package are what "Guardian" claims show an alien being.

There is a fair bit of information on the web about this case but it is now widely accepted that this was an elaborate hoax in which Ms. Labanek played a crucial role. It is rather ironic that she played herself in the re-creation on UM as she is a terrific actress.

Wow, this one gave me chills until I found out it was a hoax. That Guardian video is so creepy and scary!
So was the UFO expert dude who got the tape in on it too? Why would you jeopardize your reputation and credibility on an elborate hoax?

Oechsler didn't have either of those qualities going in to this investigation. He was out to make money.
