I know Alex Desert is just pretending to be blind in his role as Jake, but he is so convincing in this role, that many people actually thought that he was blind in real life.
I wondered who he studied to prepare for this role, because he really has the mannerisms of a blind person down. I think his performance is Emmy worthy. Last edited by Tiger32 : 12-22-2006 at 01:03 AM. |

That's an interesting observation Tiger, and I've commented to my husband at what an excellent portrayal of a blind man. When Jake takes his sunglasses off, he looks blind. I'm wondering if they use a certain type of contact lense or something.
I'm interested myself in learning how Alex trained and prepared for the role. I'll try to find some articles online. Perhaps he talked about it in an interview. If I find any, I'll post them. On a different, but related topic, Bob is a scream with some of his jabs to Jake...bright eyes, Helen Keller, etc. I'm surprised the ACLU didn't step in with a Politically Correct admonishment.

Maybe he didn't study and it just came naturally. I agree though, he did a good job.

I have to agree- Alex Desert did a very good job playing a blind character, and if he played this part in a show like Frasier or Everybody Loves Raymond or some HBO sitcom he would have been on the short list of emmy nominees, but since Becker was considered tripe by the emmy voters he was not going to be recognized for that part. Actually this show had some decent actors, but I guess since the writing was on a certain level it wasn't going to get that kind of industry attention.

Nope. Check him out on BOY MEETS WORLD on ABC FAMILY. He played one of Cory's Teachers in some episodes.
