Hey all,
My name is Johnny and I am a director for a small film company. We are currently in pre-production for a few small documentaries, one is on a place called "Buck Hill" which was shown from my understanding on Unsolved Mysteries in the year of 1992. If anyone has any information on this, please let me know...or reply to this thread. We have already looked into all of the DVD's and this episode does not exist on any of the disks. Also, the distributor could not shed any light onto this for us. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks! The story is as follows: During the depression and a particularly harsh winter storm a logger returned to his home and family. He cautioned his wife and young daughter to remain indoors while he went out to fetch some firewood. Upon his return his wife told him that their pet dog had gotten out of the house and the girl had ran out in order to call him back and had not yet returned. The anxious father grabbed his lantern and began to search for his missing child. The family lived on Buck Hill road and the distraught parent searched up and down it to no avail. The young girl had simply vanished into the stormy night never to be seen again. As legend has it the logger who went mad with grief never gave up his search, and would comb the area nightly with his lantern until his death. Some locals in the area believe his search continues to this very day and refuse to go near this isolated, logging road. |

Crystal Light, huh? Well it is one of my favorite drinks.... Actually I don't remember ever seeing a segment like that on UM. Are you certain it was on there? Maybe some other regulars can chime in on whether they remember a segment like that. |

Hey,
Thanks alot for your input...Love that pic Crstal Dawn...is that you in the pic from the 70's? Anyhoo, Im pretty sure it aired in 1992 as a ghost story about a ball of light (latern) being seen on this old, dirt, logging road. I have never seen the UM segment on it, but have heard from numerous people that it does exist. I have seen the ball of light myself, and it is quite creepy. I believe UM discreddited the light as a streetlight...which it is sooooooo not...ANY info would be a great help...thanks for the posts so far ans keep them coming!!! Johnny |

Lol, no its not me. Its actually a wedding photo of Jule and Dottie Caylor, a case profiled on UM. She is missing and many people suspect her husband. Would the case you're talking about be the gurden light? I do believe a segment about that aired on UM. Last edited by crystaldawn : 12-05-2006 at 05:25 PM. |

I don't think UM discredited the Gurden light as a streetlight, especially considering that there are NO streetlights in the vicinity of the railroad tracks. But wasn't the ghost story surrounding the Gurden light about a man who was murdered? I want to say that the man murdered on the tracks was killed with an ax and he wasn't looking for his child, but walking away from an angry employee, who murdered him. This ring a bell for anyone else? I've watched this segment so many times I think I'm blocking it out because of trauma.... ![]() |

Hey,
Johnny Again.... Buck Hill is located in the Ottawa Valley approximately 90 km from Pembroke and nearby to Algonquin Park. It is located in Ontario, Canada...on an old dirt loging road which is situated on a hill...pretty creepy looking...I have been up there many times throughout my life, as I don't live too far from it...I have seen the "light".... If anyone can shed any light on this, as when it was on Unsolved Mystery's...which I believe the year was 1992, It would be greatly appreciated! |

Yeah, I just watched this segment a few days ago, as a matter of fact. Gurden Light that is. You are right, the light was belived by some to be the ghost of a man who was murdered on or near the tracks by an employee. Can't say as I've seen the Buck Hill segment if it exists, which is possible. |
