Default A Couple Topics for Discussion

Roy’s ex-wife (known as his late wife in the first couple seasons) was a real B.I.T.C.H. It’s one thing to want to forget Roy, but I got thinking about it. She was obviously R.J.’s mother. Why would she want to forget about him, too? Did the writers just forget about the character of R.J. since he only appeared once, and mentioned once before the episode “The Late Mrs. Biggins.”

Since Tony Shalhoub appeared on the cover for seasons 1 & 2 on DVD, and he only appeared in one episode, do you think Thomas Haden Church will appear on the season 7 cover, since he appeared in one episode? I mean if it were up to me, I wouldn’t have Tony Shalhoub on the seasons 1 & 2 cover and I wouldn’t have Thomas Haden Church on the season 7 cover. I’m just curious what you all think about it.

Also, even though Budd is nowhere in comparison to Lowell, do you wish he'd have stuck around for the rest of the show? I mean they didn't need him, because all the other characters were enough. But still, he could have stuck around, even if he was the guy who'd walk in, tell a joke and then leave.

The videos are numbered but the early ones aren't as good. #3 is where I really get going.

Some parents do "forget" they have children, unfortunately. It's a heartbreaking fact that I wish only happened on TV. I've seen it happen, along with the devastating effects it has on those poor innocent children who have to deal with it. It really breaks my heart.

As for Bud sticking around, I'm glad he was dropped. I just did not find him funny at all. In fact, there aren't too many episodes from the last two seasons that I enjoy watching.

Abraham Benrubi who guest starred as R J Biggins appeared in 2 episodes. episode #16 There's Always Room for Cello where he came out of the closet and episode #135 Sons and Lovers for Roys birthday party and where he introduced Roy to his boyfriend.

The only reason I can figure that they put Antonio on the cover of season 1/2is because of the success of Monk and hoping fans of that show that might not know about his appearances on Wings would buy the set.

The only episode I actually enjoyed with Budd is 132. 'Twas the Heist Before Christmas the Christmas one where they are at Joe and Helens house and Brian had a date with the drive up teller from the bank. Brian's date had terrible breath. Budd said "Whoa you could scrape the paint off a barge with that breath." And she took offense because Brian wouldn't stick up for her. This is one of my all time favorite episodes. Gilbert Gottfried also guest starred.

Before I watched the whole show on USA back in the summer of 2000, I always assumed R.J. Biggins appeared as a recurring character. I was shocked to learn he was only in two. They are both memorable, though. I guess it's the same how people think of Ernest T. Bass appearing in a lot of Andy Griffith episodes, when really he was only in, like six.

I figured that was why they put Tony Shalhoub on the cover. I'm just so anal about DVD covers having the correct cast members and photos. I just wondered if they'd try to use Thomas Haden Church, who I'm sure will be even more popular after Spider-Man 3 comes out, for the season 7 set. With any luck, they'll stop using the same photo (on reveresed) of Lowell on the covers. lol

I liked Budd and would rather have him there than nobody. It was, again like The Andy Griffith Show. When Barney Fife (the GREAT Barney Fife) left the show, he was replaced by a weak replacement, Warren Ferguson. He only appeared occasionally in one season, and didn't even last the season. Budd was kind of like that.

Don't get me wrong, Budd's not a classic Wings character. I just liked him coming in, making a joke, and leaving. I wouldn't want him to have big storylines or anything.

I also believe that the success of Monk is what got Tony Shaloub on the cover of the first Wings set. I can almost assure you that you wont see Farrah Forke on the cover of Season 4 or 5.

'Twas the Heist Before Christmas was the only episode I really liked Bud in too. I didn't dislike the character but I wish they would have taken it a different way. I don't like how they had him portray a kind of stupid/eccentric character.

Roy made a comment in the "Room for Cello" ep about Sylvia's influence on RJ, "He gets that from his mother, but what the hell, she's dead now". Now we're not sure if Roy meant she was a direct influence on him or Roy meant it in a heriditary sense. And I haven't seen the Roy/Slyvia eps enough to know if they reference him as parents, like "How's RJ doin'?" I got the impression RJ lived with Roy during the cello ep(??).

Yes, the Shalhoub thing is a marketing ploy. I doubt (if they make it to season 7 dvds) that they'll stoop as low to put Lowell on the cover.

I'm a rare Bud supporter. He was a Lowell clone (a more high-strung one) but had some good one-liners in his one year. "Twas the Heist" was great with the infamous "barge" comment, and the "Mr. Whiskers....he just couldn't peeeeee!", plus being Brian's liason when he was overeating. Bud, after dropping off what he claimed were his pizzas, then says "Ok, cya, I'm gonna get some lunch".
