Default Memorable SERIOUS MOMENTS in a sitcom

Or any FUNNY SHOW...There are countless moments on a situation comedy or funny show, where it turns serious...it can be a sad moment, an angry moment etc. What are some that stick out in your memory?

GOOD TIMES: Florida finding out her husband James was killed in an automobile accident. This character has the distinction of being the second person ever being killed off in a series.

Also, Flo dropping the punch bowl after dealing with the "denial" of James' death.

ROSEANNE: Her father's death and her coming to grips with what she and Jackie had to deal with when they were younger.

Roseanne dealing with Dan's infidelity.

Roseanne slapping D.J.

I LOVE LUCY: Lucy trying to tell Ricky she is pregnant. At the end of the episode Ricky sings her MY BABY AND ME.

Lucy and Ricky when they are in Hollywood and they dance at the end of the episode to ANNIVERSARY WALTZ.

GIMME A BREAK: The family dealing with Chief's untimely death.

THE COSBY SHOW: When Theo tells his dad to just "love him for who he is"...in the episode when Theo comes home with bad grades.

BRADY BUNCH: Father of the year episode; Mike reading the letter that Marcia wrote.

LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY: Laverne in denial abt her fiancee's death. He was a firefighter who died while fighting a fire.

Lenny screaming and yelling at Squiggy and then shoving him real hard after Squiggy called his girlfriend a "dummy"...she is mildy retarded.

HAPPY DAYS: Richie in a coma after a motorcycle accident and Fonzie "speaks" to God.

Fonzie dealing with his temporary blindness.

THREE'S COMPANY: Jack comforting Janet after being treated like dirt by her dance instructor.

Jack telling Teri "I'll take you" after she says who else would want her looking the way she does after being made fun of at the party where she is introduced to everyone.

SESAME STREET: Everyone dealing with Mr. Hooper's death.

Big Bird and the kids dealing with the damage done to SESAME STREET on 9/11 and what really happened.

Wings - The gang bid farewell to Lowell Mather, who joins the witness protection program. That farewell scene in the airport is very touching.

That '70s Show - Red and Eric talk after Red's mother has died.

Punky Brewster - Punky takes Cherry to the cemetary, where her parents are burried. Cherry cries as she talks to them for the first time, since they died.

Taxi - Alex cries over the death of his dog, Buddy.

Three that come to mind right away are:

Perfect Strangers--Mr. Gorpley, Balki and Larry's boss, shows up uninvited to Balki and Larry's Christmas party because he has no other place to go, and Larry's mad because he will ruin the party, but Mr. Gorpley opens up to them and the others really understand what he's about. Balki gives him his own Christmas present because "he needed it more than he (Balki) did". It always gets to me.

On Family Ties--I don't remember the exact details, but Alex and Skippy pledge a fraternity or something. Alex, of course is accepted, but they don't want Skippy. First, it was touching that Alex, out of loyalty to Skippy, chooses not to join. But the best part is where Skippy kind of unloads on Alex; Skippy confides in Alex; he doesn't know why he doesn't fit in and wonders "what's wrong" with himself. Alex reassures Skippy that there is not only nothing wrong with him, but that he's a special individual. It is very moving. (I may have the details a little fuzzy, but that's the main idea.)

All in the Family--I think it's when Gloria and Mike lose a baby and Archie is in the hospital room with Gloria. I choke up every time I see that one.

The Fresh Prince- When Carlton OD'd on all those pills at prom.

The Fresh Prince- When Will's father came back and that scene between him and Uncle Phil, where he asked about his father: "Why doesn't he want me, man?"

Another Fresh Prince- When Uncle Phil has a heart attack and Carlton cannot go see him, and Will telling him there is going to be a time when he has nothing but tubes up his nose. I thought that scene was very sad.

The Golden Girls- When Rose finds out she may be HIV positive

The Golden GIrls- When Rose has a heart attack and the girls are praying for her.

Boy Meets World- When Shawn's dad dies.

Boy Meets World- When Topanga calls off the marriage with Cory because she finds out her father has been unfaithful to her mother.

Three's Company- The last moment in the last episode where they are all three looking back at the apartment before Terri turns out the lights.

That's all I can think of for now. There are SEVERAL Facts of Life moments as well!
