Wow... I'm really surprised you've heard of the Christies and the Sons of the Pioneers.
Which NCM song do you like best? I'm guessing that you've heard "Green Green" (from 1963) and "Today" (from the movie, "Advance to the Rear," 1964).

Here are my favorites:
1. The New Christy Minstrels
2. The Flamingos
3. The Platters
4. Nat King Cole
5. Elvis
6. Connie Francis
7. Johnny Mathis
8. The Everly Bros.
9. Ricky Nelson
10. The Beach Boys

I like all there tall tale and event songs like Johny Appleseed, John Henry, Casey Jones, Parson Brown, Preacher And The Bear and Paul Bunyan. The group is enjoyable. They also have a ton of good covers of Christmas songs. The only song of theres I don't like a lot is Down by the Riverside

Sons of the Pioneers are good to. I have always been a Roy Rogers fan. When I am outside doing work or what not sometimes I will sing Cool Water and people have no idea what song that is.

Wow... I'm impressed. Not many people younger than about 35 have heard of the songs you listed.
Johnny Appleseed, John Henry and the Steam Drill, Casey Jones and Paul Bunyan were on the "Land of Giants" album (early 1964).

Parson Brown is one of their Christmas songs (on the '63 album) and Preacher and the Bear is from the "Tall Tales" album (late '62/early '63).

The band had a very good sound. With 9-10 members (10 when Randy Sparks was still with the band) they had a very full sound- like a choir. And each individual member did fine on solos. The two females (Jackie Miller and Gayle Caldwell the most well-known) had great voices as did all the male members. One of them, Nick Woods, had a voice which kind of reminds me of Elvis, both of them being baritones.

Yeah, "Cool Water." From 1960. I wouldn't expect many people to know that song! It's not like it's played on the radio everyday.
