Fox News calls Olbermann 'over the line'

By BETH HARRIS, Associated Press Write

1 hour, 35 minutes ago

PASADENA, Calif. - Fox News Channel chairman and CEO Roger Ailes responded to Keith Olbermann's latest critical volley against Bill O'Reilly on Monday, saying the MSNBC host's behavior "is over the line."

Ailes, appearing Monday at the summer meeting of the Television Critics Association, was referring to a weekend incident at the gathering in which Olbermann whipped out a mask of O'Reilly and gave a Nazi salute.

Ailes said Olbermann picks on Fox's O'Reilly to boost his ratings.

"Clearly he has no viewers except those he gets when he attacks Fox News," Ailes said.

Of Saturday's incident, Ailes said, "I really think that's over the line."

During his "Countdown" show on MSNBC, Olbermann regularly tweaks O'Reilly. Olbermann has named O'Reilly his "Worst Person in the World" at least 15 times. The nightly "award" is Olbermann's way of criticizing what he deems bad behavior.

O'Reilly has referred to Olbermann — although not by name — as a "notorious smear merchant" and pointed out the low ratings for "Countdown."

"The O'Reilly Factor" on Fox is No. 1 in the cable TV news ratings. Olbermann generally runs third in the same time slot.

Also Monday, Ailes said Fox will mark its 10th anniversary with a "Thank You America" tour this fall. Shows fronted by O'Reilly, Shepard Smith, Greta Van Susteren, Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes, and Neil Cavuto will do live versions of their shows from 10 cities around the country, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas and San Diego.

I think the bickering is a little beneath these guys.

Just do your show and give the name calling a rest.

Keith Olberman has lost what was left of his mind. He's got this twisted, obsessive hatred against Bill O'Reilly. That's basically his career in a nutshell these days. How crazy is that. I've never seen a host go after a rival like that.

It shows not only a lack of class and professionalism on Olberman's part, but MSNBC as well, for allowing it to continue. Olberman's ratings are in the toilet while O'Reilly leads all of cable news shows. It's pure jealousy. A blind dog could see that.

Olberman is a one-note song. I tuned in a couple of times out of curiousity, and I couldn't believe the way he just hammers O'Reilly. The guy needs a new act. It's gotten very old. People are laughing at him. He's like a schoolyard bully. Only a stupid one, picking on someone bigger than himself.

Olberman is also a Moonbat who just loves conspiracy theories.

Obermans career hasn't been sh*t since he thought he was good enough to leave ESPN. He's gotta do something to stay in the limelight. Let him spout off all he wants. No ones watching....

Yeah more advertisement for Fox News. The more he mentions them the less and less people watch what ever network he is on now.

Oooh, so good. FAUX is showing just how GOP with their griping. They attack liberals on their network, so turnabout is fair play.

No Doc. There is not a single host on Fox who just rips aparts liberals on a nightly basis. Olberman needs a shrink. His behavior is not normal. He has an obsession.

I'd like to see one (even remote) correlation between O'Reilly and Nazism.

And whether you like it or not, Fox is just as a legitimate news station as CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN or BBC.
Does Fox attacks liberals on their network or is it the commentators? A BIG difference. And NBC has been bashing Fox, mostly unfairly, for years... they get a pass from you, right?
