This will almost certainly be Beryl in the next few hours. Looks like a threat to the East Coast. I doubt it gets too strong but a hurricane is not out of the question(NHC takes it up to 65 mph, 9 mph below a hurricane right now). The 12z GFDL also shifted west and has a landfall on Long Island!
NHC track isn't as far west, but still grazes the Outer Banks of North Carolina: Reconnisance Aircraft will be in the system shortly to determine intensity. RECENT DATA FROM THE AIRCRAFT THAT CAME IN AFTER SOME OF THE FORECAST PRODUCTS WERE ISSUED INDICATE 1000 FT FLIGHT-LEVEL WINDS OF 46 KT IN THE SOUTHEASTERN QUADRANT AND A PRESSURE OF 1007 MB. THIS CORRESPONDS TO AT LEAST 35 KT SURFACE WINDS...AND A TROPICAL CYCLONE UPDATE... OR TCU PRODUCT... WILL ISSUED SHORTLY INDICATING THAT THE CYCLONE IS NOW TROPICAL STORM BERYL. |
