If I am not mistaken, he was lead guitarist, not lead singer. The lead singer was JT Taylor.

Oh no! That's my favorite group! Charles Smith was one of the five original members! The only way to celebrate Kool & the Gang is to induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. It's been long overdue. Charles Smith btw was not the lead singer, he was the lead guitarist. When I clicked the title, I thought you meant James "J.T." Taylor, he was the lead singer. RIP Charles. |

RIP Charles. I thought he played the trumpet or saxaphone? What did he die of?

Sad news indeed. The song, Celebration, is a classic at weddings, parties, etc.

Clyde Smith was one of the best lead singer of Kool & the Gang during the 70's and 80's, and he would be surely missed.
