Default Myspace is going dooooooownhill

I was just watchin the news yesterday morning and I heard that myspace is having a new rule.......anyone 18 or older is not allowed to be on a friends list of someone under 18 unless they have their full name or email address.
It's stupid....I mean I know they're trying to be safe but can they use common sense?? Some murderers, rapists, pedophiles, ect. trying to find young teens on myspace can always create a new account and pretend to be under 18. Geez
Myspace is having too many problems.

Well they can still be on their list, as long as they know their full name, e-mail address OR if the person under 18 adds the other person first. They can still add people over 18 and let them on their lists, it's just that the person over 18 can't initiate the add.

I think eventually, Myspace will end up shutting down.

nah. It's too big. It just needs to be cleaned up. Stop letting everyone in the world have an account. I mean, what site should have 14 year olds and porn stars on it equally? C'mon people. And restrict the disturbing half-porn pics of people in their thongs and barely there bras. They should have their own myspace or something.

Any online predator, willing enough, is going to abuse the loopholes. They will create a profile just as Girl Meets World said, with them posing as a teen. I don't think people take friend requests as serious as they should either. Most probably only quickly glance at the profile before making the decision. Then later on down the line you find that cute 17/f from Atlanta is really some balding 54/m from Muskegon.

I used to be on there, but ended up deleting my profile.

It just became a hassle to keep in touch with everybody. People would leave me comments and then I'd feel obligated to reply back with something as worthy that they put on my profile. Nice tool to network current and old friends, just not for me.

I think this is a great rule!!! One of the best things, if not the best thing MySpace has ever decided to do!!!

All you have to do is change your age, or they change theirs. I know many people under 14 who put an age over 18. Under 14 isn't supposed to have an account, but there's always ways around it. At least this way NewsCorp can cover thier ass if something happens.

Atleast they're trying to do something about this problem though. Hopefully this is just the beginning of bigger and better changes to come. The fact that they're making an attempt to keep things safer for kids, whatever there true motives may be, is a good idea as far as I'm concerned.

Oh I agree totally, its the kids who are the ones circumventing the safeguards. But this way if they circumvent them, and something happens, NewsCorp won't be liable. (this started with a lawsuit, btw) That's smart on their part too.

At least they are trying but I doubt it will work. It doesn't make sense because people can easily be friends when one is 17 and the other is 18. People can also lie about their ages.

I never really liked myspace. I didn't see the point of it.

I'm not as into MySpace as everyone else is! I update my profile now and then, and of course check my messages and log in everyday.

But to me, it's all about facebook baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
