...Is wanting to be a pharmacist as nerdy as i think?...

I wanted to be a pharmacist too, in fact it was my major for awhile! I find pharmacy fascinating. But it's not just putting pills into bottles....it is a very tough program! Make sure you study your science, especially chemistry, most especially organic chemistry, which you probably won't take until you get to college!!! I had to drop out of pharmacy because I just could not do the O-Chem.

If you can get through, being a pharmacist is a great career, and you will make lots of money to buy that house in Burbank. My mom told me that pharmacists are so in demand right now that firms in Texas are offering new graduates starting! salaries of $80,000 and a new car to come work for them!!! It doesn't get much better than that!

Mr. Coily's cousin is a pharmacist, and she once told me that she was in school for longer than it took to become a Dr. Bulk up on the chemistry!

Pharmacists usually have an average starting salary of $45,000, and lately it has been much higher than that, since pharmacists are more in demand now than ever.

Perhaps you don't have a concept of how much that really is-I know I didn't when I was your age-but the average college graduate starts out at around $20,000-$30,000, I'd say, for a Bachelor's Degree. Of course Pharmacy school is, at most schools, an additional 4 year program, just like medical, veterinary, or law school would be.

I did a search of "pharmacy school rank" on the internet, and here is the web site it gave me, a list of the best pharmacy schools. http://sanet.co.kr/html3/phdpharmgou.html

Of course these things are subjective, I'd recommend checking out other lists as well and comparing them.

I suppose I should add....how much you make depends on the labor market at the time you get out of college. Right now, pharmacists are in high demand, and since there are less out there, they are getting paid more, not only because the few ones out there are more valuable, but also to entice people to become pharmacists. However, that enticement could cause a glut of pharmacists in a few years, and then their average starting salary would probably decrease. This is true for basically any major.

But I do think that the bottom line should not be money. Do what you enjoy...and if making big bucks just happens to be a side effect of what you love, so much the greater.

I just thought I should be clear about how the payment thing generally works since I have no idea how long from now you will be getting out of college. By the time you get out, it is feasible that pharmacists' average salary will have changed.
